Unorth Racing UDP alt belt size??

Post by kc2005ptgt » Fri Jan 27, 2006 7:08 pm

Ok, I searched and searched but to no avail... does anyone know the size of the belt to use on the UR UDP? I got one from O'reilly's, it is 14mm x 831mm (O.C.) <-- outside circumference.

The part number and model are: GATES K040320

Thanks in advance. :(

BTW - this was wierd the way it broke. This morning I was starting my car (about 40* this morning) and I had a big belt squeal which went away after I drove off and went about a mile. This afternoon after work all was cool, no squeal etc and made it home on the 15 mile drive. About 2 hrs later I drive out of my neighborhood and less than 2 miles later I hear a pop and I loose power stearing. Crap, PS belt???? Yeah, but not broke, no, the belt just slipped off!?
So I turn off car, check everything to see if ok, and go to remove PS belt when I see something hanging off the ALT which looks like a belt! It was, but only about a third of it and it was completely sheard off. So, now I have a piece that looks like an alt belt, only 1/3-1/4 the size and then the alt belt is left on, no problems, just missing that part of it. Unfortunately I had no choice but to drive it over 30 miles before I could park it, but had no problems (never took it above 3k rpm).
Why would that have happened (the PS belt "popping off")? Why would the alt belt shear in twain??? And do you have a PN for me to fit the Unorth Racing UDP - alt belt?

Yeah, I looked for like 30 minutes and could not find it anywhere. I even looked on Modern Performance, no luck there either. I will check again. :)

 Sorry dude, I didn't even notice it. I had a migrane when I was posting before. Thank you for responding man, I appreciate it. Sorry for the brain fart. I did get the right Alt belt, thats good. My old one was a Napa 040315, and the PS/AC belt is a gates 040500 (checked belts).

I do have a concern, maybe my UDP is not all the way in. It looks like the belts are on the pulleys fine, but when I look at the tensioner it seems to sit a bit off of it - like up to 1/8 inch towards the passenger fender. :? I assume this means that the UDP is not on all the way and now I do not know how to get it on farther. I do not have an impact wrench to screw in the bolt tighter and I am afraid of doing to much that it ends up torquing off the head and I am left with - a screwed up car :(

Any hints, suggestions? I was thinking about taking it to a friend who owns a muffler shop and seeing about getting a bay for 30 minutes and using their wrench. Still fearful of torquing head off though.

I just bought a used MPx UDP and didn't get any belts with it. Would the MPx use the same belts as the UR? Thanks

Actually when I first put mine on i didn't have it on quite all the way and the belts would squeal when it was cold or just started up. All you need to do is borrow a good impact gun from a friend and let the car sit overnight and cool down then tighten the bolt down good and hard with the impact gun. Mine went on the rest of the way no problem and now it works just fine. Mine is a cheapo e-bay udp by the way.

you could always hit it with a torch too to heat it up and then use the impact gun to get it on further (since you heat it up to get it on in the first place.. metal expands when hot)

If you heat it up with a torch while its on the car you run the risk of melting the timing belt cover and the timing belt. You're better off just getting a good imact gun and goin at it.

a torch also doesnt heat the pulley evenly most likely causing warpage...
