Yet again

Post by mjrpaine » Sun Oct 07, 2012 9:39 pm

Ok so heres my problem ... about maybe 20,000 miles ago I ended up with an 0344 cam sensor code. I replaced it with one from C.A.P.

Coming home from class yesterday ... it happened again. I popped the hood and took it out ... and it fell apart in my hand. $50 for another one and 15 minutes to put it in ... the car ran great.

An hour later driving down the road ... it popped the code again and the car ran like shit. I came home and took it all apart. It seems fine. Saw a little oil on the end of the cam ... just wondering if thats normal ? ... so I cleaned it up and put it all back together. Drove for about an hour tonight and popped the code again. WTF ... after sitting where I was for about an hour ... I started the car back up. Still got the cel ... but it drove fine all the way home. I mean I can understand my luck of getting a bad one from the parts store ... but really ...

I mean ... is there anything else I can be missing on this. If not ... then I will go back to the parts store and get them to exchange it ... but if it happens again ... Im trading the fukin car in ... lol

Just to be sure, it is P0344 and not P0340?

I would check the connector, and wiring, for an intermittent signal problem.

Oil there is normal. The CPS is the thrust bearing for the cam, it needs lube.

Ok .. scan tool has come up with 0344 intermittent. Not sure why ... or how to track that down. Cant get it to repeat itself to find it and we dont have a scanner that can track it down.

Also ... its showing something strange ... Its showing a code for the catalytic converter.

Its showing 1300 degrees while running ... then when you shut the car off and turn the key on it shows -83 degrees ... WTF ?

any clue?

Are you buying an OEM cam sensor, or just an Autozone special? The 2.4 is very picky when it comes to that sensor.

Replace the sensor AND magnet with OEM pieces. Easy fix.

Not autozone ... but C.A.P.

I used the same thing last year and it made it this far ... but I guess its worth a shot ...

but that doesnt explain the cat code ....

The cat code could just be a goof from the car running shitty. The temp readings are calculated, not actual, so they will show odd variations when the car is OFF.

Returned it on Monday and got another one. Put it in and so far so good. Til yesterday ... went out to start the car and it was dead. Damn... first cold day and the battery dies. So I got a new one last night and I'm good to go

Knock on wood... lmao.
