Where is my ground strap?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Where is my ground strap?

Post by arick793 » Sat Oct 20, 2012 1:23 pm

I have a 2004 neon, 2.0 manual trans. My ground strap is corroded in half. I want to replace it, but I'm not sure where the other end goes! I have one half that is attached to the engine block with one of the transmission bolts, but I'm not sure where the other end is supposed to go to. Thanks!

Are you talking about the ground strap that attaches to the cylinder head, on the passenger side ? Or one of the ground straps that attach near the transmission ?

I suppose that where it is attached doesn't matter - As long as it attaches to anywhere on the body, to help complete the ground circuit.
Hell, you could run it all the way back to the negative battery 'in theory', if you wanted to - but that would be way overkill.
