Purple Power - good stuff or waste of $$?

Post by TomsNeon » Thu Oct 25, 2012 5:11 pm

I wanted to try purple power as a bay and engine cleaner but read it says to not use on aluminum and painted surfaces and it's also corrosive.......so it's NOT such a hot idea to use this stuff to clean up the bay then correct? I know, I know....DUMB question huh! Still, a question none the less. Opinions???

purple power

good idea or not, I use purple power in my engine bay. I have not experienced any problem with it. Just protect your paint with something when you spray it and wash it off. Near the top of the engine don't go in there with the water at full bore and when you use it, get a dedicated spray bottle and mix it half purple power and half water. It works well. I have old towels that I only use when working on the car. I fold them and cover the paint and the plasic grill and cowl. be sure to remove the towels when you are finished. As an extra measure I rinse it down and shammy it off.

I used it to clean my bay, did go through the paint into the primer in a handful of spots. Be careful and don't scrub too hard and you'll be fine.

I would use Simple Green instead. Purple Power is some potent stuff.

I like both simple green and purple power. I used purple power no problem - but diluted and carefully sprayed and rinsed.

I use just about anything citrous based as it seems to be the most effective and less damaging to any plastics....
