Urgent - RPM surging endlessly on start

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Urgent - RPM surging endlessly on start

Post by gcretro » Wed Nov 07, 2012 10:40 am

04 Dodge Neon SE.
I dove parked at a friends place & stopped. Now I start the car and the engine revs high on starting as though the gas pedal is stuck.

Key danc shows the code as P2074?

I have called AAA to tow me to the nearest AAA. Any thoughts on what the deal is? so they don't rip me off

And oh 2 weeks back I changed the PCV valve... the hose is connected...

Oh well the hose to the throttle body had somehow slipped off!. Put it back and now it's fine.

any time your car starts idling really high like that for no reason you should look for a vaccuum leak. any hose that connects to the manifold after your throttle body.

I also found that that bellow type hose that connects the throttle body to the manifold was put on reversed :) There throttle body end was on the manifold... this way it doesn't seat properly and guess it popped out. The ends are clearly marked.

Well, at least it didn't fall off when you were driving. :)

Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.
