please explain...

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Okay. I know what it is. And yes I replaced it last year. It can't be bad already.

It's my cam shaft position sensor. It'll cause my engine to buck at anything over 2000 rams.

My question is why does it make my check engine light come on and act up. Then I'll start my car after a run somewhere and the light will still be on but my car will run okay. Then the light will go off and be okay for a while then it'll come back on again.

What in the **** I'm getting pissed. Please help!

make sure the plug is clean and free of oil, a lot of times when the sensors go bad oil works up into the plug. Also check the wiring, and lastly it could be the sensor going bad again, the cheapo's dont last long :cussing:

my crank sensor did the same thing with me. Found out there was water inside the plug from me power washing my engine bay...

It kept shutting off on me as soon as I'd get it on 2,000rpms. Try checking the crank pos. sensor as well... Make sure they're dry and there's a good connection. good luck.

if you bought it from the parts store, especially Duralast from Auto Zone it will die again quickly. they're junk. get an OEM and be done with it.

I did take it off a couple months ago and there was a little oil between the sensor and cam end

Don't know why but eventually it'll get bad enough it'll stay in limp mode, dying at 2k RPM's. I pulled a cam sensor from the junkyard for mine as a temp fix but I would only recommend OEM sensors.

That's because there is supposed to be oil there. The cam sensor is also the thrust bearing for the cam.

Oil in the electrical connector means it is leaking either around the seal, or through the sensor.

'03 and up will wear the sensor out faster: The cam magnet has many more pole switches.

They all use the same sensor, just different cam magnets to correspond with which type of PCM you have.

I am closing in on 200,000 miles, and over 11 years on the original cam sensor. Thus is the difference between the added work that NGC puts on the sensor. That probably equals 40,000 to 50,000 NGC miles.

It is what it is, there is little you can do, except buy the best quality one available. And hope they don't change to a cheaper vendor...

yeah it's quite possible you have another bad cam sensor

auto parts store sensors are hit or miss for our cars... i had to replace my oe cam sensor at about 80k miles, i'm now at almost 180k miles on an aftermarket sensor...

my car though is an anomaly though because she's a friday car and has had no problems other than a bad pcm... original motor, tranny, axles, clutch, crank sensor, starter, rad, cat, O2 sensors, etc...yeah...a friday car... 8-1-03
