etiquette when being flashed

Post by gtxtreme19 » Fri Nov 23, 2012 11:29 pm

Apparently my headlights are super bright with the chrome housings on the 1gn, and I get flashed all the time. Is it bad to flash them back to let them know I do indeed have my "dims" on?

Do you have HIDS? Are they aligned properly? If yes to any of those, that is your problem.

Nope, Sylvania silverstar ultras in a clear housing depo type lamp. Nothing too uncommon I don't reckon.

I would briefly flash back, but maybe lower the beam a touch, if you are getting flashed that frequently. Even with quality bulbs that little change can affect the glare oncoming traffic sees, and you don't notice too much on your end. The guy you are following might be happier too.

I know after I sanded and cleared the stock lights on the '96, they were pretty obnoxious with regular bulbs. Lowering them just a little fixed it, and you really couldn't tell from the driver seat.

Make sure they are aligned properly and not pointing too high. Nobody aligns their headlights, they just toss them in.

I get flashed occasionally in my truck, so I decided to stop being as considerate and waiting until I see the car before switching from hi's to low's. Usually I do it before the car appears but apparently that doesn't cut it. I have nothing special, bulbs were in it when I got it 13k miles ago.

I'll turn them down later today, they don't seem too high when I'm pulling in the driveway against the garage, but it can't hurt.

Off-topic but I would like to know who at Chrysler decided to have the Liberty foglights mounted above the front bumper? I get flashed all of the time by drivers who think that my fog lights are the brights. :cussing:

In answer to your question, I would flash your lights very briefly to let oncoming drivers know that you aren't trying to blind them with your brights.

Well I aligned my lights yesterday a bit lower, I got flashed 3 times on the ride home. I somehow doubt it is my adjustment but more likely just ridiculously bright lights.

Eh, that one is easy throw them whichever beaded necklace is closest to you.

As far as lowering my beams any farther I don't think its necessary, where I have them now the center line was about 3 feet up my garage door at the back of my driveway (roughly 35-40 feet)

if people have a problem with my headlights, they get it right back. same with riding my ass. i'll slow right the hell down to the speed limit, possibly slower if they're a real prick.

Actually, this is a good idea safety-wise. One thing I learned at professional driver's school is to slow down when being tailgated- the offending driver will likely pass you and this will help to avoid being rear-ended.

You've gotta be careful these days as the driver might just roll down his window and point a gun at you.

Neon headlights, factory or aftermarket only have vertical adjustments as far as I'm aware, you'd have to shim them somehow to adjust horizontally I believe.

I always just hit the HIGHS and left them on till they turned theirs off. It was kinda like playing chicken...lol.....I believe I always won except for the few times where neither of us turned them off ....lol.

I'm not sure. The FSM mentions both a "left/right adjustment" and an "up/down adjustment". I do recall that the 1st gens had both, but I don't know firsthand about the 2nd gens. Either way, if the OP's car had been in a fenderbender a headlight could be out of whack to the left, pointing at oncoming traffic.

They do have a side to side adjustment. Well, at least '00 to '02 ;)
