dremmel + intake manifold?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Post by kirktalife » Mon Jan 30, 2006 6:50 pm

i was wondering if i should dremmel out my intake mani when i put my mpx throttle body on, one of m buddies did it to his car and it worked out pretty sweet, is this reccomended, what do you guys think, i mean there will be no real gains if i just bolt the throttle body on right?

just take the manifold off, its fairly easy. if you can afford the downtime, you can open up the plenum and smooth out the ports at the head. if you fill the injector humps you can grind the ports out pretty big.

i did it with a spare manifold and took my time. i used a dremmel with sanding drums and metal putty to fill the injector humps, opened and smoothed the runners as far in as i could, and port matched them as close as i could. it makes a noticeable difference, especially mid and high range power delivery. its not a 10hp bump or anything, but it helps, especially if you are going to put a 60mm TB on there.

Dremel = crap. Overheats easily, and is usualy bulky. Get a small die grinder... i found a kit at home depot for 27.XX for a husky and a few bits ;) Works great! Will post pics soon...
