Dashboard vibration. Please Help!
Dashboard vibration. Please Help!
I'm not sure where to post this but for a while now my dashboard has been making a vibrating noise while driving and it is super annoying. If I give it a tap with my hand it stops for about 30 seconds and then starts up again.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so how can I fix this annoying problem.
Please help!

Also known as a Piece-o-Shit, this car has to be the worst car ever made. Although it may look cool and have a great name, this car has many defects. Everything from gaping holes in the back floor panel, to missing interior, from failing clutches, to having the clear coat applied before the paint, this car takes the cake as the worlds worst idea of a car.

hard to locate a noise over the internet. all i can say is try and locate the noise. try taking one panel off at a time and see if the noise stops. when you pull a panel and the noise stops, then buy some 3m foam tape from an auto parts store and try to dampen the noise so you can't hear it. sorry but that is as specific as i can get for fixing a noise over the internet. sorry but videos probably wont help its a feel/ trial and error kind of thing

Yep, usually some felt, or the foam tape will give it enough to keep the parts from hitting each other. Won't fix the vibration, but it might fix the end results.

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.

Agreed.occasional demons wrote:Yep, usually some felt, or the foam tape will give it enough to keep the parts from hitting each other. Won't fix the vibration, but it might fix the end results.
You may want to remove the dash panel, and tighten down everything that you can.
Look for loose connectors; and tighten the screws a tad.
And, as Occassional said, add foam or felt 'as needed', where necessary.
I have to go through my entire '98 Neon in spring, and fix all the buzzes and squeaks in mine.
It used to be quiet..... When it was new.

Well I'm sure your SRT (and previous neons) has stock rubber motor mounts which will eliminate a lot of vibration.Midnight_Rider wrote:Wow, never had that problem with any of my Neons. Forgive the joke but perhaps you have a Harley-Davidson engine under your hood?
Seriously, I'm sure that the people here who really know about things will give you some clues about this.

Interior noises can be difficult to find and they drive me insane.SBopp wrote:I'm not sure where to post this but for a while now my dashboard has been making a vibrating noise while driving and it is super annoying. If your'e able to tap it with your hand, I assume it's on or near the driver's side possibly? There is a fair amount of stuff under that dash panel that can rattle. I'll post up a couple of pictures and tell the problem I had. Hopefully it will help.
My Neon was making a rattle at the dash top. Right at the little tweeter speaker location on the driver's side. I could press down on that spot and would quit for a bit, but come back. It was loudest when at the top of first gear (like when your'e in a parking lot).
When I pulled the dash top off, I found part of the speaker's foam cushion had come unglued and deteriorated. I replaced it with some sticky sided foam like they suggested above. Rattle gone! There's also a lot of screws in there that could be checked too.
Here's a couple pictures. If you've never had the dashtop off, maybe these will help:
Center Wire Harness Area. Can see trim screw:

Passenger Speaker. Foam Still Good:

Driver Side Speaker I Fixed:

Center and Driver Side Dash Area:

Hope this helps!

You're absolutely right. I will now sit quietly and observe.sidepipe87 wrote:Well I'm sure your SRT (and previous neons) has stock rubber motor mounts which will eliminate a lot of vibration.Midnight_Rider wrote:Wow, never had that problem with any of my Neons.
