Belt Squeal - UPDATE!!!!!

Post by kc2005ptgt » Tue Jan 31, 2006 8:21 am

Ok, I changed the Alternator belt on Saturday and this morning it was squealing pretty bad - I thought that maybe it was just cold, so when I got to work I decided to sit and listen for a second. Sure enough, it was still "slightly" squealing. Do I need to tighten or loosen the Alternator some to stop the squeal? Could it be that since the PS/AC belt is slightly off of the tensioner that maybe it is causing a squeal???? Any help will be mucho apperciated!

usually its a good idea to retighten the belt after driving for a few days... what should stop the squeal... if that does not work prestone makes this belt dressing for like $2 that will stop it...

it's the PS/AC belt if it's "slightly off the tensioner" - i promise you that

yeah, that was my issue - especially when it was cold or damp out and with winter here it was SO bad...

just get that thing dialed in right and you'll be good to go ... i haven't had a problem since

if you do decide to tighten the belt, do not overtighten... that can cause damage to the shaft.

Well, I will keep the belt where it si at - it's on pretty good, not too tight, but if it squeaks, I will wait till I get the UDP on well. Anyway to see how far it is on? I can not see behind to tell...... like I said in another post, I do not want to strip the head off the bolt. It was tight getting it off, and it was tight getting it back in too. So, any suggestions?

Ok, I finally figured it out - of course my udp was off alignment, it was not touching all the way to the engine, so I went to a friend and he let me put it up on the rack (he owns a muffler/brake shop) for free and lemme use his torque wrench. It went right down, almost 1/4 of an inch!

I works now and I have no more squeal, no more belt slippage offage :? and I can rev above 5-6k without worrying about my belts falling off. Just an update, I am sicc'd!
