Problem to be solved by a neon expert

Post by neonstang » Sat Mar 02, 2013 5:01 am

The problem with my neon (2000 atx) is it was kind of slow when going up big hills or try to accelerate fast so I and a friend run it with a scanner live data and found that the car has the ignition advance at very low speed, like 5mph and 38 degrees advance then when you take off, it go down as low as -2 degrees. What could be the problem? The computer is an Autocomputer Xchange unit reflashed to my vin and mileage. Car has almost all the sensors changed with the exception of the TPS and the Knock sensor. There are no codes and the only problem is that when you mash the throttle it kind of bog because does not have the ignition advance when it is needed. Hope you can help. Thank You. :banghead:

Sounds like you don't know what conditions should produce however much advance and your problem lies somewhere else. How are your plugs?

Does it down shift? Or does it stay in 3rd gear when you put the throttle down.

Besides the plugs, what about the coil pack?

"Kickdown" cable not governor. The governor on a 3spd trans is internal.

the kick down cable controls the governor in those transmissions.

Thank you for your response. The coil pack is new. It stays in 3rd gear all the way up because I dont push the throttle all the way down. The problem is that I dont know if anyone has ever check their neons on a scanner with live data as you are driving it to see what it does. The problem is also there in a straight road when I smash the throttle and the car bogs down too and doesnt seem to respond very well and is in that moment when the ignition advance go all the way to 0. Also when the car bogs down if you take a little back on the throttle it seems to respond, Is this normal or there is something wrong with the car. Thank you.

Maybe it can be that. I replaced the cat because it was plugged but the muffler still the factory unit. Maybe the muffler is plugged too. I will check that when I have the money. Thank You.
