I have a question about the valve to valve on srt4s

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

I have a question about the valve to valve on srt4s

Post by stairmaster3001 » Wed Mar 06, 2013 12:24 am

ok so im doing a timing belt on my srt4. not quite finished. But the question is my retard friend was helping and i was making sure the crank was in the right spot and the belt slipped off the cams and spun em out a little and then he turned one seperately and i heard a clack. i was mad as shit. it wasnt a loud noise but i noticed it.
Do you think a valve could bend that easy?

Not sure how much force it takes to damage the valve. The ones I've heard about are when the timing belt slips and spins one of the cams.

i would imagine it is spinning with more force on the belt.
the valves are steel , but idk i hope nothing is damaged

When i timed my srt engine in the spring, the tensioner must've come loose because the timing ended up 3 teeth off. I was concerned about the same thing but everyone assured me its a non interference engine (valve to valve was my main concern though) but i retimed and it was perfect.

I remember when I was rebuilding my engine, I spun the crank backwards a bit and hurt a "tink"/"clank".
I was wicked worried that I'd bent something. But all was fine when I fired it up!
