Upgrading speakers
My drivers door speaker went blooey the other day. The car has 85K on it, and they are all original speakers, so I guess it was time. At this point, I can just get two new door speakers. But then, after a bit I want to get new 6x9's for the rear deck also. The stock radio/cd changer will still be used. I'd like some recommendations for good three way speakers that will have solid, clean bass response, and good overall balance. I don't listen to my music extremely loud. I just like everything crisp, I care a WHOLE lot more about sound quality than loudness. And I know that my stock stereo isn't giving me near the wattage I need, but it has to work for now. I will get a new HU sometime, I just don't know when. So, suggestions please.

If you want something that is efficient enough to run off deck power and sound good, I recommend the Infinity Reference 6010cs. You can probably find them on ebay for around $100. I installed last years model in 3 vehicles and the owners were all very pleased with them.

Well, thanks for the input. I did some research, and I did look at those Infinity's. The 6010cs is a component setup though, with the external crossovers and seperate tweeters, and I didn't want to go that route. I went ahead and purchased some Polk db650's from Crutchfield. I'll let you know how I like them. Got 'em for $89 for the pair. PRetty good deal, and they have great reviews.

Awesome! I'm installing them tomorrow....assuming they arrived back at home. And I was also planning to get the matching 6x9's sometime later, so it's good to hear you like them as well. The only negative's I read (on Crutchfield.com) about the 6x9's is that without a sub for the low end, they were lacking. Which is understandable. I plan on getting a 10" Polk MM 2104 sub, and a 350 watt RMS Profile amp. I can't wait for the sound, but the weight I could do without. That's why I'm sticking with a single 10". I figured I'd make a mount area that you can see with the rear seats folded down, with the sub right behind the drivers seat, facing forward, and the amp on the passenger side. That way it looks cool with the seats folded down, and the face of the sub isn't suspect to damage from stuff in the trunk.scneonchic501 wrote:and Ill add another great review!quicksilvr wrote:Well, thanks for the input. Nice and crisp, a big improvement over stock. Just wait till you add a little bump and it sounds even better...Im not sure how they sound turning the bass up a bit more, I turned the bass in the speakers down a bit, and most if it is comign from the back 6x9s and the sub, but either way, I think youll be happy
