Post by Vernon » Mon Sep 20, 2004 10:50 am

IS there any difference between the kit that energy suspension and prothane makes other than maybe price?

The ENergy kit is a PITA to install just ask Canuck_2k, half the bushings would not fit NO MATTER what was done! From what i've heard/read Prothane is the way to go on 2nd gen Neon's!

Energy kit is a bit tricky to install, but the only bad one for me was the vertical control arm bushing since it was 3 peices. I installed all the busings excetp for the sway bar bushings. The sway bar bushings didn't fit since I was using ACR sway bars, but I did use the endlinks from ES.

The Prothane comes with different sway bar bushing sizes...I'd recommend trying that. Either way, the install is hard work, but in the end, the snappy handling and instant turn-in is so worth it.

I've installed the prothane kit on my SRT and I've done an energy kit on a customers neon. The prothane kit was more complete with better install instructions. Also the energy front control arm bushings were such a pita I'd go with the prothane kits all the way.

I read in a book called Chassis Engineering that urethane bushings arent all theyre cracked up to be. Apparently, if theyre not lubricated often, they arent capable of deflecting the same way rubber ones do. This makes for undesireable noise and road quality.

This book is pretty dated, so I would expect that these problems have been addressed with the "poly urethane" bushings that are sold by companies like Energy and Prothane? Anyone know much about this and wanna clear that up?

All I know is the stock control arm bushings dont last long and arent cheap to replace. My energy were only $30 and look like they are gonna hold up. Now all the other bushings im not sure. I also heard the sway bar bushings from Dodge are polyurethane

anyone know the difference between polyurethane and reg urethane? I just wanna clear this up before buying any bushings for myself, cuz thats not something you want takin a shit on you while rippin corners. Ive heard a few theories but I wanna hear real experiences.

You can get the bearing kits, but I didn't much care for the kit so I made my own the way I like them.

I still have a set available, PM if you're interested.
