Radiator Fan

Post by OreoDJR » Sun Jul 14, 2013 12:03 am

Hey guys,

My radiator fan is toast, looks like something blew and the metal of the motor was rubbing against the plastic blades and it seized.

But anyways, I want to replace it but I am wondering if an aftermarket fan will cut it or if I need to just get the OE replacement (double the price)

This is the OE replacement:

This is the aftermarket generic fan

Mostly wondering about CFM and such.
Also if I got the aftermarket, I would try to maybe re-use the shroud from my broken fan assembly to help airflow.
Or maybe I'll just dump the assembly all together and use two smaller fans.

Also looked into replacing just the motor, Advanced Auto Parts has one for $97, still more expensive than the aftermarket fan, but if I NEED the OE part, this might be better than buying a whole assembly.

Thanks for the input.

Go with the factory fan setup.
Because: You KNOW that it works, and you won't have to deal with any messy re-wiring or replacing connectors, 're-engineering' the damn aftermarket fan to fit properly, etc., etc., etc.

Have you tried looking up that p/n on Amazon ?? :)

A heck of a lot less than AutoZone !!!

You could also 'source' a good used one at a junkyard.

I ended up buying two generic 12" fans to replace the shroud + 13.5 OEM fan setup.

Did the wiring and install myself.
So far its been working great, lets hope the work lasts.
