Quick Gains Question
Quick Gains Question
05 SXT
What kind of gains are you looking at for an UDP, magnum head, CAI, exhaust headers, and a tune?
I'm talking at the Crank, Just an estimate.

I heard http://www.neonecutuning.com/ had a tune coming soon for the 05. And is using the standalone or MS getting rid of the NGC, or is it just going to help out a little bit?
he hasnt even started on 03-05 neons yet so you might be waiting a while.
and yes MS replaces NGC (stock ecu)

I have a hard time believing that the tune counts for so much, and a ported magnum head, cam, and headers do so little on their own.
But then again, that's why I am selling my freshly Stage 1 ported Magnum head and Crane 12 cam and Crane 12 cam and Crane springs. If I do all the work to bolt it on and only gain 5 hp on the dragstrip because the ATX and NGC tune are holding it back, my head will explode as I sit there on the return road at the dragstrip and stare in disbelief at my timeslip.
Chrysler shouldn't have used such a weenie little 2.0 engine, they should have used the 2.4 instead, DOHC for an N/A stock Neon SXT.
Ok, I have a 5 SXT ATX with a pacesetter header and K&N air filter. What are the DYNO PROVEN gains from the 2.0 NCG calibration? And would I have to run high octane fuel?

doing the magnum top end swap will net about 20hp on an sbec 2.0 but the ngc (without an r/t tune) wont yield as much.
yes MS is a better base and will net you more gains with mods overall.

Nitrous would work since the computer can't regulate that

The NGC and the 2.0 isn't the problem. The automatic is your problem. My 05 sxt mtx went 16.3 with me sucking at driving in 2006 mostly stock. Frank (racer12306) went 16.1's. unsuperman went 15.5's with a long tube and gutted before he went turbo but he had to keep resetting his ECU to replicate the results. The wimpy little 2.0 in my 1gn went 15.39 with a header and no rear seats. These are all 2.0/3.55 cars.timk225 wrote:I have a hard time believing that the tune counts for so much, and a ported magnum head, cam, and headers do so little on their own.

Nitrous will wake your car up, give it a shot.
Also, stop hijacking everyone else's thread to complain about how slow your automatic is.
Jerome Adams had good gains doing all that to his SXT, I forget the number but be made a build thread here.ShanesNGC wrote:05 SXT

Thanks this is what I'm looknig for. Trying to weigh my options, I have 2 grand to play with and Idk whether to ditch the SXT and get an srt or just work on building this, whether it be turbo or N/A. I would rather keep this 2.0 as it's cheaper on insurance, easier to drive (ATX).. and less of a hassle to sell and not have a car until I got one. Appreciate the on-topic response.Jerome Adams had good gains doing all that to his SXT, I forget the number but be made a build thread here.

The automatic will be a hassle, since you have a 4-speed, but lambostealth on here quite a few years ago put a hahn kit on his atx ngc and had a good time with it.ShanesNGC wrote:Thanks this is what I'm looknig for. If I were you, I'd look into a 5-speed swap at the minimum, and either an SRT swap, or turbo. N/A will be a hard road, and you will need a standalone, or wait until Syked Tuning makes a good NGC ECU. N/A with an automatic will not be a fun ride.

If you have all the parts there and ready to install it should only take a weekend

Hagan and neonslg09 both did 5 speed swaps over a weekend (at the same house none the less). The hardest part was getting little things from parts stores and then figuring out how to trick the neutral safety switch on the trans to make the car start.ShanesNGC wrote:I would like to, But I'm not mechanically inclined.
