I am just curious, and I would like to know what you guys think about this. A buddy of mine has a 2003 civic si, and i of course own a Neon. 2002 Chrysler R/T. What are your experiences in these 2 cars, ive looked up specs and it looks like the neon is a tad faster, what do you think about it? Most of you are going to say, race em and find out, but i would rather not. Cops are gettin pretty bad around here for some reason. Im just curious.

Take him to the track and race there.

I can take a stock civic Si, but any header/intake/exhaust, and they will walk all over. My brother in law has a NA b16 swapped hatch and runs low 13's. The Honda's respond well to "bolt on's" - some say because stock they have small exhaust, etc... I think it is because of all the R&D that has gone into them.

Good luck!

you can beat him going stright, but it doesnt look to good going into turnies unless you have a good setup. i used to race this kid with a 2k3 si all the time. all i had was a filter and he had an intake and a muffler and i would walk him. no when we started taking the turns, he took off. much smaller car will do that!

It is hard pressed to find a car in the neons class(4 door 4 cyclinder) that will beat it. (rt/acr of course) At least that is about how it is around my area.

have you done anything to your neon ? if the SI is stock . . . as long as you drive it well - you should win -

Theres a modified Si that runs around my area - He whooped up on me . . . not sure what hes done to it (aside from the huge fart cannon on the back)

I think his car is stock, mine is too tho. He wanted to race me the other day when we pulled up at the lights. I had just seen 2 cops following eachother about 2 minutes before, so i decided against it. I saw him at the bar a couple hours later and he just made a comment on how i was scared to race him, lol. So now, of course, i would like to beat him. I just thought it would be fun. I had this kid the day before yesterday tailgate me in a prelude. It was prolly late 80's early 90's. But when he pulled up beside me to pass i gunned it and blew the guy outa the water. So its not like the car doesnt have balls, cuz it does. I just wanna see the neon school that civic after what he said, haha. Plus im not really a fan of civics anyhow.

Well - you could hop on ebay - get an Ebay CAI - could probably get it by the end of the week if you try hard enough

change oil - new plugs - all that stuff - As long as he really is stock - should be a walk in the park : )

Make sure your not running your defrost when you race him . . . . ummmmm yeah -

ADD: Since its an R/T run premium when you race him . . . my R/T runs much better on premium (as recommend from DCX)

the SIs had 160hp before no? the new SIs have 190+... basically, you'll beat him off the line and through the first 4 gears, but hit fifth and its over! the top end on hondas is really good, so just make sure you dont race for very long :P kick ass through first 3 gears and then just let off having proven your point

lol thats what i had planned, i dont want to do any 100 mph race through town. I run premium anyhow, so it shouldnt be too bad, any other tips or tricks that you guys use in your neons while racing, shifting tips, or anything like that?

The R/Ts seem to make alot of power past 6k RPMs . . . I seem to get the quickest times when i nearly redline . . .

Some people might have other things to say as far as shifting goes . . . .

go to redline(little past the red on the tach) that way when you hit the next gear it will be back in the powerband.

Basicly if its from a stop, high revving from the starty (3.5Kish) and let of the clutch at a medium pace (try not to completely spin the tires till traction loss). stand on the gas firmly until redline. Basicly, start to pull out of gear as you push into the clutch. As soon as the clutch is completely in, you should already be putting it into the next gear. From there, let of the clutch quickly and stomp on the throttle again. If you find yourself spinning tires like crazy, let off and start over (not the race, but your acceloration). Lots of little tips, im sure you wont have much of a prob ;)

the 4 door 4 cyl part would include evos, wrx, and a ton of other cars that will lay waste to a neon. you have to include the "entry level econobox" line to put the neon at the top of its class! --hehe just pullin your chain--

but seriously, neons do OWN the other compact cars/econo sedans in its class. i drove the newer civics and whatnot and they dont compare.

i thought the si's had 127hp and the sir's had the 160hp, now the new si's got the 197hp, you would forsure take the old si but not the new one, and it would be a nice race between the sir but i dont think you would come out on top, unless the other guy cant really drive and you outdrive him

the EP Civic SI's (the ones before the current ones) had about 160HP, the new ones are around 195

I hear the 06 Si's are pretty nice...the aftermarket was all over them even before they were released...must be nice to have a following like that, but even so I much prefer the neons any day, its nice being the underdog sometimes

I love how the new si commercials always neglect to mention the fact that the car only makes 127 or so ft/lbs of Torque

Thanks for the advice guys. We will see what happens, im still not too sure if im going to do it tho. If i do im a little more confident now, might have to get him to start from a roll tho. I would just hate to see the neon wrapped around the poll like my last car, lol. I just hate lippy Civic owners!

take him from a dig. Thats a drivers race ;) Also you should pull like a raped ape off the line. Neons make much more torque than Honda's do. Honda's make a decent HP but they rev the hell out of it to get there. The neons get to a higher HP way quicker because of the difference in Torque.

Still, honda's are quick and do respond well to minor bolt ons. Be careful.

If you lose, send him my way

They are pretty cheap in here... in here a Neon RT costs about $180k, while a renault is $200k, and an srt-4 $242k
