So I was doing around 65 on the highway this morning, ran across an angled expansion joint driver side first, and then all Hell broke loose. Front axle started dancin like it had ants in its pants, steering wheel was doing the hokey pokey and the Jeep was pulling me towards the guard rail, across a lane of traffic. I knew what had happened. I knew what I needed to do to get it to stop. I also knew it was going to happen again. Unfortunately, I didn't have the option of going home and grabbing the beater to get where I was going. Slowed down to about 20 on the shoulder, got it under control and got back on my way. Happened 3 more times between getting where I had to be and getting back home.
So I drop the Jeep off, hop in the beater Camaro to run to the dealership to pick up some drag link ends. I get to the head of the neighborhood, hit the brakes and the right rear locked up on me immediately. Great. So that ended up getting dropped off at the shop, I didn't get the links, and now I'm stuck driving the Monte Carlo until parts get in Wednesday, stuff gets installed Thursday and I get some welding done Thursday.
Best part is, it's an hour drive to the shop I'm getting the Jeep worked on. Buncha poorly maintained roads. Bumps make me almost die. Hour of white knuckle with anticipation driving doesn't sound appealing. Oh well, when I get it back, I'll be almost done with steering upgrades. Silver linings!
Bad luck is the only luck.

It's not as easy of a fix as I made it sound. While I could just replace the stock drag link ends, what's the fun in that when I can just upgrade? And that would have just been a temp remedy until I could get the new drag link I had already ordered put in. But I'm flipping the drag link, so I have to have another part for that. And I have to raise the track bar when I flip the DL, so I need a new bracket welded on for that. And if I'm getting welding done, I might as well get all of the axle welding done the same time, so it's getting a truss and gussets for the steering C's. So all in all, around $1400 parts and labor in upgrades for a $40 break. That's why I'm handling it all so well, Gramps. Front end will be almost bulletproof after this. Hopefully rock proof too.
