Wet interior = radio stays on while key is out?

Post by titansxt » Wed Sep 18, 2013 10:38 pm

My sunroof (aftermarket dealer installed Webasto) was open just barely, enough to make it vent from the rear but not open the front portion, and it stormed pretty bad today. It was hardly open for long before I got a chance to close it but my headliner is now dripping water from the corners as well as near the controls for the sunroof. Everything seems to work fine but I just went out to move my car and I noticed now my radio stays on with the key out. The fuses in the dash are bone dry and the sunroof does not run off, that I know of, any power wire that connects to the radio.

What gives? I pulled the radio fuse so my battery won't die. Is it an ignition problem?

Might need to check the keyed on fuses to see if they are all powered with the key off. Or if it is just isolated to the radio circuit.

Maybe pull the fuse box to see if something didn't coincidentally get back there, and short from the direct battery buss to the keyed on buss.

I would wait until things dry out completely to see if it works again. Having the fuse pulled is probably a good idea until that happens.

My radio is supposed to stay on for a few minutes after the car is turned off. But if it rains it turns off immediately. And I do not get water in the car; the humidity in the air is enough. So these things can be weird sometimes.

I'll look into that. Thanks.

thomas_w, I assume you have an aftermarket radio? Mine is OEM but regardless that is odd you have that problem. No exposed wires anywhere?

BTW, part number for new non sunroof headliner with and w/o oh shit handles? I found this, 0WR96TL2AC, I have no idea if my car has the alarm they speak of but I was wanting to add handles. Is this possible?

Best to have your VIN handy if you are ordering from a dealer. These things are better called in, either ordering online or local.

Saw those, tried doing my own sleuthing but came back more confused. More so interested now in adding oh shit handles if I get a new / used headliner. Is that possible? Looked at the parts manual but I can't see what I need to attach them and how. Searched too but got no specific hits back.

I believe the weld nuts are in the roof panel, just the headliners are molded for the handles. You could add the handles, but there would be no recess in the headliner to get your hands in them.

If you were re-covering a headliner, you could probably convert a standard one, if you were good enough at making the recesses.

Used would certainly be the affordable way to go, if you need a headliner, the problem is more finding one, and shipping it, if needed. .

Yes, you are correct. Mine is an aftermarket radio; I still have the OEM radio sitting in a box in the basement. There are no exposed wires. I think this is an internal :quotes: feature :quotes: But strange nonetheless. It never really bothered me enough to trace it down, though.
