AH! Boot came off CV and greese everywhere! What to do?

Post by nodestiny » Tue Feb 07, 2006 9:32 am

I was just installing my new Koni struts up front when i noticed greese everywhere on one side. This side has had its boot replaced due to extreme stupidity last time i removed the strut (strut smashed the boot and put a hole in it, had the dealership put a new one on). Anywho, the clamp they used on the boot came loose (cheap clamp, BTW) and now there is very little greese in the boot. I zip-tied it with a zip tie gun to hold it for now, but that wont work for long!

What is the best thing to do? Load up with greese and buy a good clamping tool and do it myself (And if so, what kind of greese and where do i get the clamp/crimp?)? Or most likely have to pay the dealership to do it again (its been over a year, doubt they will honor any workmanship). Or finaly (what i dread most) pay them again for their services ($75 an hour!)

If dealer did it before, make them redo it - I had the same thing happen after they replaced my rear main and axel seals, and they screwed the "boot". They said, "well, there is no way to prove who did it, you or us, so we will fix it for you for free."
