Dodge Neon 2004 SXT question

Post by scotthugh » Wed Oct 09, 2013 10:29 am

hopefully this is a good place to post.

I just had the timing belt changed, spark plugs, ignition coil & wires.

A symptom that has been happening and still persists is in the morning the car makes a weird front end sound that is like a rhythmic vibration. It almost makes me think of a stick getting stuck underneath and something is hitting it over and over like a card in a bike spoke. As the gas pedal is laid down the vibration picks up more and more. It only happens when gas pedal is laid on. Idle it makes no sound.

It is a thudding type of sound or like a grinding.

After turning on the car and off again it seems to warm up and the problem goes away after a while but it happens in the morning only.

I tried taking it to my mechanic while it was happening. It persisted on the way there but go figure it stopped doing it after it warmed up.

Thank you for any feedback that anyone can provide

This may sound stupid but check your lugnuts as well... Loose lugnuts will make a simialr noise. Doesn't make sense that it would only do it when the car is cold but I'd check just for peace of mind.

Sounds very plausible. I will look into that. The car definitely has enough miles to warrant new mounts. I checked them out a month ago and thought they were worn but my mechanic thought they looked ok.
