My new project... Finally Updated!!! 99%Finished!!!!

Post by z3roneo » Tue Feb 07, 2006 5:55 pm

Thought I shared some pics of my new project I started the otehr day... New project consist of custom gauge pods... Love how the srt's are but wanna go custom... So decided on this type of them in my 2gn...
Image

The frog Style is only made for the 1gn... but I guess I just changed that...

Here are the pics...

Just made the rest today...

They still need a lil more trim to be postioned to my likens.. I'll be J&B Welding the suckers down and after that bondo is gonna be covering the entire dash.... Also coming up will be a custom Radar Detector Holder... Its gonna sit right before the defrost vent; also gonna hook up a lil speaker to it so it'll be louder than what it is now cuz I can barely hear it now due to the car... And also gonna make a spot right between the gauges to put in a Turbo Timer... Its all gonna look so sweet...

Finished pics will be here soon enough... So what you guys think??

Comon Dan, I never half ass anything... I'm using JB weld to hold them down first, then bondo glass, then bondo... and I'm gonna make the end of the pipe come to a pick or something with bondo so it can flow with everything...

never said you have ever half assed anything, just thought it was weird to use JB weld. i prefer hot glue because it dries quickly & it also applies easy. just my 2 cents, you don't have to get pissy

Its a Ichibahn Atx shifter... you can find them on ebay for real cheap... And the guages won't be a prob. normal driving cuz I'll be getting all Megan Tinted Guages...

Pods are glued down... Just waitin for them to fully cure before I start busting the bondo out...

This is what I used to glue them down... Stuff works wonders.. Didn't wanna do it with the Hot Glue gun cuz I wanted the dash and the pods in the car so they would stay aligned how I wanted them too...

Image

And before antone says something bout the tape.... Is used to make sure that the pods don't/didn't move when I applied the glue...

Image
Image

Almost there peeps... Also found a sweet spot for another gauge to go...

So, after these are all complete... The hot sun isn't going to have any effects on the bondo and glue on the dashboard? I've heard some bad stories about using fiberglass and bondo inside a car because the temperatures fluctuating in the summer time in the sun, etc... :?

Yea Dan but getting in the cracks witha cord and the hot glue gun is a challenge of its on and on top of that, I think the hit glue gun would have moved them a bit..And besides that, the hot glue gun couldn't hold some wires inside my center console for my leds..So using that on this was way outta question...

The glue and bondo will hold it withouta prob... I use to this stuff all the time on my bumpers as well as other things inside the car...

Today... I got outta school early and started on the gauges again... Today I cut out the depth for the gauges... A friend of mines lemme borrow one of his old school gauges as a tester... (Not the gauges I'm using on tester... )

Yup so now it's time to bondo and sand....

As Learned something very new today... I didn't know that the top dash consist of two pieces...  Yes it does.... Would made it alot quicker to cut the depth out... Just found out when I was taking pics... Looks like I can add 1 more pod right below and between the top gauges or use it to hold my Turbo Timer...

Heres what I'm talking bout...

Image
Image

Now if I can get my hands on some more top dashes I can make the 2nd part as a guage for someone else...

Whatcha think bout that???

I thought when you took the dash off that you would notice it had 2 pieces. Taking that piece out makes it really easy to cut a hole for an srt-4 gauge too.
