car wont enter "customer learn mode"

So as the title says my car wont let me enter into customer learn mode for programming a third sentry key.

I have used the manual and the how to but it will not enter the mode!

The second programmed key that i have is a non dodge universal looking sentry programmed key. and my first is the standard dodge key.

My question is will the non dodge key have any effect on the programming? and if so what options do i have.

Do you have two sentry keys already programmed in before attempting to program a third key? Two valid (already programmed in) keys are required to use the customer learn procedure, otherwise, you'll have to either find somebody with a DRB3, or go to the dealer.

One special note about the customer learn mode; it is available only on the domestic cars, or those that have a U.S. country code designator. Meaning, if it is not a U.S. market car, the car does not have the customer learn mode.

Domestics got something that exports didn't?

I think blueneo03 has two programmed keys, but only one is a genuine Mopar key.

Not sure why that would matter, but it may.

yes i have two sentry keys but the one in not genuine.. thats my only guess as to why it wont work...

Hmm. I'm trying to figure out what exactly you have. So you're saying that you have two sentry keys, one of which is not a gennie Chrysler, and are trying to program a third key?
I'm aware that many locksmiths sell the sentry keys, but i don't think that the universal sentry key would have the specific code programming of the gennie Chrysler sentry keys.

Occasional, that info about customer learn mode is straight from Techconnect.

I think that the domestic customer learn mode may be different than the customer learn mode for export markets, if they have them. Mitsuru may be able to confirm that.

Ok. If the third key is a gennie Chrysler sentry key, you'll have to get it programmed with the DRB3. After that, since you'll have two sentry keys programmed in, you'll be able to program additional keys with the customer learn mode. The SKIM can have up to eight keys programmed in.

If it is not gennie, then you'll be back at square one.
Here's how i see it~ the Chrysler transponder key has some Chrysler propreitary codes in it, as well as the SKIM. I would think that the universal sentry key does not have those codes. To be able to program some codes into a key would require access to the software that belongs to Chrysler, and it would not be cheap.
That would be the reason why the gennie keys are at least $60.00.
Scantools are the same way, the scantools can get into the pcm, as there are what are called "global" codes, what would also be called universal codes. But, to get into all the other computer modules, the tool would have to have the manufacturer specific software to access them, which costs a lot of money. That is the reason why the high end scantools that can access all the modules besides the pcm are so expensive. The basic code readers are cheap, due to the fact that the pcm codes have to be accessible by all. Hope this helps.

Wal Mart does Chrysler keys for $65 or $70, can't recall exactly, but I have no idea if they are actually Mopar keys or generic. For that much, I would want genuine.

Not that I would have my local Wal Mart do it. They seem to be able to screw up a regular key in the automatic machine that cuts them. I had them (attempt to) make a copy and you could tell visually it wasn't going to work. It was that bad, neither side was close to the original key code, or to each other.

The dude was like "well you could still try it." Yeah...
