ebay cold air intake
ebay cold air intake
here is my review of an ebay cold air intake, i dont remember who it was i got this one from, but all of them are the same. around 40-50bucks after shipping, the cost for a diy is about even in then end depending on how you go about making you homemade intake.
what you get when you order this intake:
-intake tube that replaces the airbox, and resonator
-a short tube that is sapposed to be used as an extension to the first pipe
-2 couplers, on that will let you connect the throttle body and first, bent tube, and the other fits the shorter tube, lowering the placment of the filter
-some ruber striping that is sapposed to go around the hole in the fender well, to prevent it from rubbing, and in the hole in the intake tube to get that lil sensor to stat in there
-an air filter, much like the cheapo ones from autozone
ok, well when i got it, it was in a plain box, the tubing was in there pritty tight, wrapped up in bubble wrap(who doesn't love bubble wrap? lol). installing the intake itself was simple, made even easier cause i was using this to replace my diy intake.
the pita part was dealing with the ruber strip crap, it just kept falling off. i spent probaly 15 minutes working with this, even using a lighter thinking that if i heat up the ruber it would be tacky and stay put. well it didnt, and in my old 2k i though i had it in there finally till i looked one day and it had fallen out and the tube had been rubbing on the hole and it looked pritty rough. there is a lil hole for that sensor thing to go in, i cut a peice of that off and it was ok, i guess, i set a torch style lighter on it till it smoked and it stays on there now. the filter is not the best obviously, i replaced mine with this apc dragon filter. after i got everything together, i felt a lil uncomfertable with how low the filter sat cause of this puddle i gotta get past on the daily, so i took off the extension, and bought 2, 2-2 1/2 couplers to use the short tube to replace the bellows tube. now, on my 04, the filter sits right behind the fog light, and with the new filter it is getting niche, freash air right there so that is really cool imo.
on my 04, being it a new car i didnt wanna mess up my fender thing again so i went to auto zone and bought this tubing like what comes in the engine dress up kits for like 6-10bucks for 10ft of tubing. i used a section of that around the hole and it works awsome, plus i got to use the rest of it to dress my engine a bit.
also, fyi, you will need to buy a breather filter for your pcv cause there is not place for it on the ebay intake.
any questions about the intake, or things i left out, let me know, feel free to email me or get me on aim.

Got mine Tuesday, it was cool except for the part where I needed to go buy a coupler and crap.
Definitely worth the money though. Anyone know of a good way to keep it from rubbing though?

I got one too
I just got my intake today. It is pretty cool. Increadibly light. the whole thing must way around a pound. It is so light it is scary and yet the aluminum piping looks about a 1mm thick.
I modified the two ends of each pipe to so that the couples dont slipp out from the vibration.
by the way i may have found a way to prevent rubbing of the intake. I am working on modyfuing the original idea but i will take some photos of the whole thing finished and maybe a few shots of the parts themselves.
Pretty soon almost every mod is going in for powdercoating.
I will keep ya guys updated.

I actually found a good way to stop the rubbing already. I took a piece of rubber hose and cut it lenthwise. I then took it and syliconed the inside of the pipe and put it on around the opening. I then hooked it back up it works great.....no rubbing.
BTW.....there is no need to "modify" the piping....it will not come off when all clmaped down correctly.

do you have any photos as to how to mount the supplied brackets for the job. Just wondering. I havent been out to the car yet to see how they mount.2k2patriotblueneon wrote:I actually found a good way to stop the rubbing already. I took a piece of rubber hose and cut it lenthwise. I installed mine this morning and I have to say first impressions are pretty good. THe cars feels very energetic at around 3500-5000RPM or so. It behaves much better before. I like it how it revs much easier now and in genneral accelaration is more fun then ever before. It is still missing the IAT sensor but that will go in soon too.
It feels more powerfull in the higher RPMs because I guess it gets there faster and the power delivery is unbelivable.

Got mine on now....
I wanted to get some pictures but unfortunately my camera is missing in action at the moment.
I got the CAI from Ebay. Pretty happy with the package. The sensors fit in airtight with no problems with the already attached grommets. It extended to the fenderwell in a perfect location for everything to fit back together nicely. Everything I needed came in the package and I didn't have to modify or purchase anything.
My one complaint is that the filter that came with it was no good. The top part of the filter where the tube fits in was separated from the rest of it. Some overnight curing with some JB Weld worked wonders and has been holding up with no problems. I have been checking it daily just to make sure.
I contacted the folks I bought from through email but have not heard back from them yet. So I am not ready to comment on their service as of right now. I can say that it was delivered very quickly.
I am not too concerned because I am planning on ordering a K&N filter anyway. Would already have it but turns out every place I went to said I had to special order it. So just waiting for that now.
This was my very first mod and just wanted to let all of you know I was very thankful for the assistance I got here. Looking forward to doing some more.....

Is this the intake you're talking about:

I thought these were pointless because they were sucking warm air?
Please excuse me for resurrecting an old post.

with the link you posted you won't be really sucking in hot air.....i mean you might little bit but it's off to the side....the only plus about that intake is that you don't have to worry about sucking water....and yes i know that's what a by pass valve is for...just stating...but i would get a fender well intake

I know this is an older post, but I'm actually ready to purchase my eBay CAI... Is this the one I want since no one can seem to post valid pictures of their eBay CAI?

I'd like to go with an AEM or Iceman, but kinda' low on the funds at the moment. I just want to make sure this is going to pull air from the fender well and not the sweltering engine comparment.

EBay intake was great, while it lasted but curently mine sits on my car duct taped together cuz i cant find replacement couplers. but everyone has a diff. opinion of stuff. anyways... heres some pics of the ebay one that were taken a couple of months ago:

wasnt really focusing on the actual intake, but u get the idea. heres one more of where you can see the filter through the side of my kit

The intake that is pictured on the link you posted should work out fine man.......just remember that the short piece is meant to replace the accordian like bellows tube in between the TB and Manifold.03sxt wrote:DOH!

I think I'm just gonna' order the intake that I had the link for and hope it's the right one.

i wish they made magnum ebay kits, i was playing with my car while it was running today (revving it and etc) and noticed how badly the bellows tube expands and contracts, im thinking a solid piece would perform better, i guess ill have to get around to getting an AEM ( i seem to miss all the ubersuper deals on the .org forsale boards =\ )

don't get that one....thats the one i ordered and it was missing shit.....missing one rubber sleve, one clamp, and the rubber gromet for the sensor....plus there is no attachment for the vent line.....look into the BOMZ intake...its a little more, but has everything you need.03sxt wrote:I know this is an older post, but I'm actually ready to purchase my eBay CAI... does anyone have any good pics of your average cai parts setup?
Ive been looking at these for quite some time, especially the ebay ones and to me, they look like crap. the tubing looks real cheap and thin. we have our own in house metal shop inside of my work. im almost positive i can find pieces of tubing exactly like that in the scrap bin.
