Buying this neon

Post by Neonewbie » Sat Dec 07, 2013 7:06 pm

I am unsure exactly where to post this since, it covers a couple areas.

I found a 2k neon for sale

has a P0743 code which i read up on about but, unsure the price range it would cost to fix.

also has a "junk yard" engine in it that had around 101k miles on it

I believe the tranny has over 160k on it

would this be worth buying>

how much (with this little details) should I offer / would I need to put into this?

If the body is solid, it is worth buying.

The TCC solenoid circuit could just be a bad solenoid or a wiring issue. The solenoid isn't that expensive, but the pan and valve body need dropped to replace it. If you can do it yourself, you are looking at about $50 to $60 for the solenoid, fluid, filter and RTV, or a good gasket.

If the timing components haven't been replaced on the replacement engine, that's another ~$120 in parts. Labor could vary from $250 to $600 depending on location and what shops charge.

I havnt looked at it yet, i wanted to ask a bunch of questions (to the guy) and post here before driving the 35mins

He says the timing belt was changed a long with other things.

The car has a lot of miles and even if the engine was solid I was a little concerned about the tranny with so many miles

I was trying to pick this one up for $1,000 he wants more.

I figure use this one (depending on how much it costs)

Another possibility is the connector on the tcc solenoid. They are rubber, and harden with exposure to the weather. They can be difficult to seat all the way onto the solenoid. If it is not seated all the way on, it can cause problems. You may have to use a long prybar or long shank screwdriver to push it down, as the space is tight where it is next to the dipstick tube. My 95 had that problem, once i seated it fully all the way on, it has'nt had any problems since.
