acceleration problems

Post by LouieJr » Thu Dec 12, 2013 7:44 pm

hey guys, its been a while since i been on here but i have ran into a problem and need help, so i out a pacesetter header on the 2.0L and after a little time everytime i start to drive like slam on the gas from a dead stop, the car would sputter or putter and make a fast popping sound, and then out of no where it will take off, i dont think anything is wrong with the tranny but with the exhaust, any ideas of what it could be? i have checked the following, transmission connections, i have checked and found no engine codes stored or anything, i did have a cel for a o2 sensor but that went away after driving it for a while and it did not come back on or been stored, i think it would be the weld that is welded from the new headers to the cat but i have moved it and torqued it down many times, i have also checked for vacuum leaks and i do not have any at all, any suggestions or know how to fix this please help, thank you-Lou

Are there any leaks where the header bolts to the head? If you are getting outside air in there before the upstream o2 sensor, you are going to have issues.

A weak coil/ plug wires/ spark plug gap too wide will also cause that, Along with a TPS sensor going bad, or a MAP sensor gunked up.

The TPS will not always set a code if it is just marginally out of spec.

no leaks by the head but the weld was done between the higher o2 and the lower o2 sensor , so maybe a leak in the weld?

A leak that is past the upstream o2 would not affect the engine performance, since it will not see the oxygen rich air, and think the engine is lean.
