battery hold down

Post by Neck Beard » Wed Jan 01, 2014 2:33 pm

Hey guys, my battery died and when I replaced it I noticed I didn't have a battery hold down. Nothing there just the tray. Anyway, I was wondering what type hold down our Neon's use? J-hook, wedge, other...? My local AZ has some lynx wedge type hold downs but they say Ford/GM. Has anyone used these? The battery tray looks orig. has 3 holes in the center on the side nearest the steering wheel.

the hold down is behind the batter on the tray. its a wedge type I guess you would call it.

It uses a formed metal bracket in the rear, that slides over a stud, and a nut tightens it down.

DESCRIPTION
The battery holddown includes one bolt and a holddown
bracket. The battery holddown bracket consists
of a formed steel bracket with one hole.
Unfortunately, they do not sell the hold down separately from the tray.

Either adapting something else, or a JY is your best bet. A new tray cost ~$60.

I'm using a cam action lashdown strap in my 1gn, but then it is also a Group 51 size battery, so it is not as heavy as the stock sized battey.

Edit: Found a pic, the bolt is not correct, but it looks like the bracket is.

I tried one like that on the 1gn, and it was too high up to catch the battery. Maybe if it was thinner.

$11.50 for shipping is rape for that. I would go to a JY and if they let you pull your own parts, you might be able to get it for a lot less.

It just depends if you want to spend $22.50 total for it. If the bolt is missing from the tray, you still need to buy a bolt. I would take a 13mm and 10mm wrench, or socket/ratchet to a JY and get a whole tray assy if it is an option.

If I was paying $22.50 for just the metal plate, I would rather spend $60 for the whole thing, new and complete.

$35 shipped complete
