Are Panasonic headunits pretty solid? Plus speaker questions

This is the headunit I am looking at. There are several with in a $10-$20 of each other, some are cheaper and do just about everything this one does and others do more for just a few bucks more, but this one seems to be the best bang for the buck out there right now for what I need it to do.

The thing is, all my friends are Alpine whores. I am used to JVC stuff because it was simple enough to use, cheap, easy to use and for me, all my headunits lasted me 5+ years or more with a only a few bugs here and there. JVC just doesn't have anything for me this time around. But this Panasonic does (so does this Audiobaun with a front face USB thumb drive plug, but it got such horrible reviews, I am gonna skip it and wait for them or whoever else to update it)

What do you all think? Everyone has thier loyalties with whoever gave them thier first audio hard on, but if you all say this is a good unit, I am gonna have it rocking my 04 by the end of next week.

What speakers would you reccomend as well? Something 3-way up front and in the rear? 6.5? 6.75 up front? Of course 6x9 in the rear, but is there anything I should look for if I am only planning on running deck power for at least a year or more?[/url]

seems like a decent head unit, and the price is not bad. i don't think crutchfield would sellent if it wasn't good quality.

I have had lots of JVC stuff. I love it. But, now I am ready to move on and up market. The cool thing is, 4 years ago when MP3 headunits came onto the market, they were like $400. Now, you can get all kinds of features and MP3 and iPod capabilites for well under $200 for a super great headunit. This is actually more unit that I need, persay but for the $$$, I am not gonna complain.

Crutchfield has done right by me for over 12 years now. I know they would not sell it if it was trash but some of the reviews I have read from other headunits and such, they should definitally look at thier customer feedback and look into further discounting the bad reviewed stuff to get it off thier shelves.

But, I digress...do you think these would match to the headunit in question rather well. 18 watts RMS is pretty potent (when you consider that the stock cassette unit is like 5 or 6 watts RMS and CD player is like 8 watts RMS and it sounds pretty good for a stock unit).

Crutchfield really doesn't have anything that fits our cars that will give me a bit of decent bass up front with good mids and highs and a decent 6x9 that isn't $250 or more. What are you all running with deck power that is giving you some good bump but not 'sub quality' bump? I don't need slamming bass, just good imaging bass. You feel me?

I loved my panasonic head units I've always got the best bang for the buck when it comes to them. The one head unit I had last through 3 cars and about 4 different audio setups it had 3 sets of peramp outputs a spearte volume for the Sub. Was a great head unit and I think some one is still using it somewhere.

I have a pany head unit and I love it. It has good adjustment features and also it is a good show user also. the looks are outstanding. There is only one downfall I hvae found out about the unit. It does not play scratched CD well at all. I mean if you have a really small scratch on it maybe one that you did with a fingure nail or something it will pick it up and skip. But other than that I love it.
