HELP ME im computer illiterate

Post by OB » Wed Feb 15, 2006 7:01 pm

hey guys i have a compaq v4000 notebook that i got a few months ago, and it doesnt want to play videos. Some sites it has no prob with, but 75% of the time it wont play them (like on streetfire.com and whatnot) at all. I just installed the latest macromedia flashplayer from download.com and it allowed one particular video to play, but none after that. I mostly realized that it doesnt play internet vids when trying to play the ones from the VIDEO section of the forum. I cant get any of them to play and im frustrated. the vid screen is just black and clicking the play button or right clickin play on the blank screen doesnt do anything. not even a prompt that i need software or anything. do i have a vid blocker or somethin? heeeelp!

Computer Tech Answer #23 - Reformat your HDD and reinstall Windows. :P

Okay, that might be a little bit overboard... Try to reinstall/upgrade Windows Media Player. Go to www.windowsupdate.com and make sure all of your Windows crap is up-to-date, as well...

this comp is brand new, everything is the latest. my windows plays dvds and shit, i think it has somethin to do with my internet browser or somethin. im puzzled. the comp works really good other than that. i just got mozilla firefox im gonna try a video again. ill be back...

ok it wont work. i right clicked on the vid and scrolled down to a tab called 'error' or something, and it said: " windows media player could not play this video. if you are not connected to the internet, connect now." shit like that. WTF!

Check your internet security/privacy settings and lower them to accomodate "rough" sites. I have this problem at work becuase of the aforementioned settings. I can never play stuff from 2GN. I miss alot cuz of it, though I should be working

lol thanks dude i made some adjustments and i fixed it. i had to allow windows media player to connect to the internet. just had to check-mark a damn box, sure enough. the most complex computer prob can be solved with the check of a box haha.

it also helps to have more than one video/music-playing program.... ie: quicktime, winamp, windows media player, musicmatch jukebox, etc

Your computer has a virus. Just put some Nightquil in the holes in the back of the laptop before you goto bed. It will be better in the morning (And if it isnt, your computer died from its virus, should have acted sooner!)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA some people might try that be careful

btw just for the record, im actually pretty good on computers, im just a plain fool when they start having problems. you'd think for 1000+ dollars you wouldnt have to worry about a thing, but computers never fail to disappoint me. theyre slow and always having probelms and errors. frustrating!

Doesn't matter if you paid $10,000 for it or if you paid $10 for it - It's a computer. It will give you problems...
