battery isolator
i plan on running an optima red top under the hood, but a yellow top somewhere else to make sure the system gets enough power. I have been looking into different bettery isolators, but i found most of them cause a voltage drop of up to 0.8v!!! cant have that now.. anyone run an isolator or know of a good quality one that wont cause much voltage loss?

just not sure about caps.. i always hear one person say they are great and the next person say they are crap, on the other hand i never heard anyone say a second battery doesnt work. Im gonna be running about 1500 watts rms, optima said applications over 400wrms are not good for the red top. I already have a yellow top, i just dont want to put it under my hood because it is old and faded and doesnt match my colors like the red top would haha.

if it melted it was not meant for that amount of amperage, i would make sure mine will work with the set up. Even two of the same type of batteries mounted that far apart are going to have uneven current draw, causing surges back and forth as they try to even out. May not be a problem now, but chances are the bateries will crap out before their time.

Crucial, just noticed your a fellow TE member
so how good do the caps work? i heard they can only supply power for like a second or two, which wouldnt work too great on those long bass notes.. of course ive never had personal experience with one.

i had a 0.5 farad cap, with my old set-up. i had no dimming of lights what so ever.
you supposed to use 1 farad for every 1000 watts your system pushes.

Yeah it was i followed the directions to the tee i even upgraded the alt wire going to the issolator (cause the one that came was too small it was recommended) and i was in a parade and the darn thing started smoking lucky it allowed me to finish the parade. I redid the set up and had the two red top batteries one up front and one in the rear, they work well together and dont have anymore problems and i have alot of power running from them bothPraesepe559 wrote:if it melted it was not meant for that amount of amperage, i would make sure mine will work with the set up.
