Looking to rid yourself of those stock tires?

Post by TeckNeon » Fri Feb 17, 2006 1:21 pm

www.edgeracing.com is selling off some great stock replacement tires for $37 a piece!

Falken Ziex 512's in the 195/60 15 variety are on sale for $37 a piece! I snagged up a set of 4 for $172 shipped! I have these on my car now and they are great dry and excellent wet traction. They are even very capable in 2-4 inches of snow (with some skill you should be fine)

Just thought I would pass that around to those who are looking for a great cheap 15" replacement.

And if you have 17's ... 205/40 17's are $62 a piece with similar shipping prices as they weigh about the same per tires as the 15" (about 18lbs a piece) Don't ask me why.

That makes sense, I suppose. The actual weights are 18 lbs for the 15's and 17.6 lbs for the 17's.

Seriously! How are you going to beat $170 for 4 quality tires shipped to your door? And even Walmart only charges like $10 a piece to mount and balance customer brought in tires. So, for like $210 you have 4 new tires on your car. I spent $65 a piece for mine at Sears (not to dog you Matt!) plus $15-$20 a piece mount and balance. Uh...yeah...this is a smokin' good deal!

They say that the Falkens are H rated... I think that is too low for the ACR, yeah? I know that mine are supposed to be rated above 130 (V Rated). How big of a deal is it? I dont think I will ever get up to 130 (again) so I guess not much, eh?

What about these tires: Dunlop Direzza Dz101Tires

Umm...the 205/50 15's are $48, yeah...but 195/60 15 is still a good size for the average driver.

H Rated is still pretty fast. How fast do you drive normaly? If my car gets to 80 MPH, let me know because I am not the one driving it. My car is an ATX so...why bother?

H is for 130. Our cars top out at like 135 or 138 I thought. So getting a tire that is H will be fine. Unless you plan to drive 130+ for a long period of time that is. ;)

Yeah yeah yeah - I know the whole "are you going to drive over 130"... my concerns were whether or not it was necessary to have the right speed rating of tire. :)

I am wondering if anyone has a picture of our car with the 205/50/15's? I am thinking about just getting stock tires (price reasons) but am wondering if there is any benefit to getting the lower profile vs stock - traction, anything? I am also wondering if it will look goofy with my car being at stock height. :?

Maybe I will just go stock...

Look for my post about the rota's and I had some pics of my car in there. I have the stock 15" sxt wheels(not snowflakes) with a 205/50 avs es 100 tire. They look nice to me. Side wall is a lot stiffer on these then on the stock tires. It is cold here so I never really tested the sidewall on some corners with the ziex 512's. But most people compare them to a kuhmo 711, with the 512 being a little better.

a closer size to stock is 205/55/15 instead of the 205/50/15. many people run the 205/55 and love it. i know greg does.

speed ratings not only apply to the top speed a tire is rated at, but if your car has a suspension for Z rated tires and you throw a set of H rated tires on it, the car's handling will suffer....or so I was always told.....

black rose racing is right, your handeling will suffer and your suspension components will wear out a lot quicker. The letter rating also determines the stiffness of the sidewall... so if you have suspension meant for a h rated tire and you put a v or z rated tire on there the ride will be horrible, because the suspension is not meant for that extra bit of "shock" on the road the stiffer tires will deliver...

01 R/T with Mopar Stage II coilovers, I went 225/40/17 (Nitto NT555 are the only ones I found that size). Slight rubbing, but just barely, didn't help I was waaaaay low.
I've fit 215/40/17s, also. No rubbing on mine.
Both tires were on the same 7" wide rim. (I think the offset is either 40 or 45)
Right now stock suspension, I'm running normal (stock) tire size. Ran 205/40/17s on my stock suspension with 7.5" 35mm offset rims.

Is that what you were looking for? Or wondering how wide you can go on the 6" wide rims? 205 shouldn't be a problem, seen plenty with em!

Threw on some 205/60R15 on stock Daytona alloys for the winter. I had them laying around so I figured what the hell. 03 SXT with Goldlines, no rubbing anywhere.

Absolutely right. I have proof of that one.
