my new hood...

Got a question on outside appearance modifications. Questions about body kits, exterior lighting, just anything thats a visual mod on the "exterior" of the car. Ask those questions here.

my new hood...

Post by supertrick_05 » Sat Feb 25, 2006 1:17 pm

Yeah, I wasn't going to show any pics until I got it painted, but here's the hood I bought sitting in my basement:

Now I'm wanting to paint the hood with DuPont's "Hot Rod" satin black. It's around $100 for a quart of the paint and I'd have to buy the whole quart, which is fine. How much would you say that it would cost for a body shop to prep and paint it? The quality of the hood is suprisingly good for a fiberglass hood. Very minimal sanding to do (could probably do it myself) and some body filler around the under edge of the hood (see pic 3 and 4) and should be ready to prime/paint. Any guestimates? I was gonna show my local body shop those pics, but they were closed today and won't be open till Monday, so yeah.

ALSO....do I cut a hole in the scoop or not? I'm leaning more towards not cuz it's just a showcar and there's really no need for the hood to be funtional. Plus that would just be more money for them to have to cut a hole in the scoop.

LoL! yeah, I know....I'm waiting for all this f***ing snow to melt and we just got hit with about a foot of snow yesterday, so that didn't help one bit. I'm sure we still have another month or so of snow left, then I'll go fit it on the car, make the necessary adjustments and send it off to the body shop.

Test fit the hood first before you go out painting it.
