brake pads - hawk - kvr - ceramic?
brake pads - hawk - kvr - ceramic?
I'm coming up on having to change my brake pads so I'm looking for some opinions/feedback.
I'm sticking with my stock rotors and just need to replace the pads, so my question is do I go with a typical performance pad or ceramic? By the sounds of it a lot of people on here swear by the Hawk HPS so that's cool, but I'm curious what the difference (if any) there is with the Hawk Ceramic pads or Greenstuff pads? I also came across carbon fibre pads from KVR performance (www.kvrperformance.com)... again, not sure how these compare so it's appreciated if anyone can give me a breakdown.
Thanks

imo if you are not putting better rotors on then you are wasting your money on high performance pads. stick with stock unless you do the whole thing, no reason to half ass the job. its like getting nice wheels and putting shitty tires on them, or a body kit and not painting it. but if you do decide to keep the stock rotors get them turned or new ones or you will be kicking yourself later.
minorly off topic but how long did you guys/gals get out of the factory set? please put car type aswell.

I got 50,000 miles on orginal pads still the same rears at almost 90,000. Changed the rotors at about 80,000 as they looked like records.(for you youngins they are big black disks with groves in them and where used before CD's and tapes.)

i got the srt4 brake setup with slotted rotors and hawk brake pads that they got on modern. those pads and rotor combination are the shit x 10000001. i dont think im going to really use anything else but those pads now unless i was to get a batter brake pad. i dont really got to use much effort to stop now. it is great i can barely press down the brake and it slows so nice, but its not like a sticky brake feeling just that it stops real smooth and quick. the fact that there is srt4 brake setup helps too. its non abs as well and it feels lovely.

i think that is the biggest load ive heard in a while. there are so many people on these and the other .org that have switched pads to hawk or ebc and noticed incredibly improved stopping power. the thing to note is that most of the rotors that are available to us are junk and not much better than stock. im not going to get into the slotted/vented over stock argument because its been well gotten into before. the whole fact is that u dont need to do everything at once to see a gain. wait till the rotors wear out then if u want get powerslot or the knock off slotted on ebay or whatever moparperformancecenter sells now. i do agree with at least getting them turned.racer12306 wrote:imo if you are not putting better rotors on then you are wasting your money on high performance pads. stick with stock unless you do the whole thing, no reason to half ass the job. its like getting nice wheels and putting shitty tires on them, or a body kit and not painting it. but if you do decide to keep the stock rotors get them turned or new ones or you will be kicking yourself later.

Hawk street pads with stock rotors work very good. The only knocks that I have against them is squealing that became unbearable after about 18-20k miles (it wasn't the wear sensor) and the outrageous amount of brake dust that develops.
This time around I went with Satisfied ceramic pads which grab nearly as much but with virtually no dusting at all. JC Whitney, Tirerack and other places sell them.

I have SP Performance rotors and Hawk HPS brake pads, XRC calipers. the Hawks put out a bit more dust than normal, I have to wipe my wheels off after I drive it because I dont want it sitting on there for another week (I only drive it once a week). But it stops much better over stock pads, and no noise from mine.
Its cheaper to replace a rotor than it is to have it turned and resurfaced. Even if you just go w/ an OEM replacement.
my stock pads and rotors were on my car for almost 63k miles. when they were changed out to what I have now, they still stopped fine, just a little squeaking. but they locked up after 2 hard brakes from 60-0 and the 3rd 60-0, they failed for the most part, hardly grabbed at all.

Hey Mopar has the ceramic break pads now... but says neon 95-01! Shouldnt it work just fine on our 02-05s?

no actually its not an opinion its a fact, pads is the way to go to improve braking, slotted rotors will only give you less fade but you will only notice it on racing conditions.racer12306 wrote:you have your opinions and i have mine.
so ignore that advice and dont get rotors, keep the OEMs and get a good set of pads.
