Got a question on outside appearance modifications. Questions about body kits, exterior lighting, just anything thats a visual mod on the "exterior" of the car. Ask those questions here.

what to do what to do......

Post by silentneon01 » Tue Mar 07, 2006 5:27 pm

Just got my Kaminari turbo front bumper from Modern today. Its sexy as all get out till I really looked at and its fiberglass :( I had asked before I ordered it if it was plastic or fiberglass and they said plastic. When I called back they said oh no Kaminari doesn't really make plastic and its supposed to be fiberglass. Which had I know I'd never of ordered it. I'm now at a crossroads cause I don't know if I should put it on now or try and sell it. Reason why I don't like fiberglass is cause roads in DC which has ungodly amounts of steel plates, pot holes, sink holes, bumps, dips and some nasy building entry ways. I afraid normally driving could easily damage it.
If I don't put it on I'm out 620.00 (thats with shipping included) which I'll never recover that amount. Or put it on and hope nothing ever happens lol.

Folks with fiberglass kits how do yours all hold up? Anyone have one on a daily?

All thoughts welcomed.

not sure if you noticed, but the Kaminari kit is of high quility, real thick fiberglass too. you should be fine as long as you dont drive to crazy, and watch where you are going.

I have a fiberglass kit from extreme dimensions, Ive scraped several times in the past, hard scrapes, and never cracked anything. (Sideskirts twice, but thats becaue they are fully molded, the front isnt). Mine has held up very well to scrapes...and formerly daily driven up until a month ago. Now he's about to go in for paint one more time, and just be driven once a week.

get someone to brace it very well, mine is braced 4x on the front, and 4 on the each side. I could hit a dog and chop its head off before I really mess up my bumper hahaha.

put it on and dont do anything crazy ;) and you should be fine

fiberglass ones hold up until you really hit some , curbs, pot holes. just drive slow and avoid every big bump, drive way, and other things that are same size or bigger than your bumper. my fiberglass EVO 5 bumper has held up nicely, rock chips are a bioutch though..

Ill take pics of mine on friday when I have it lifted up....its pretty much just strong metal peices bolted to the bottom of the kit and to a solid peice of the car itself, to keep it from flexing any or anything like that.

I have the kamanari front as well and also a daily driver... Its good in all but when you hit something be prepared to fix it or getting someone to fix it... I fix it myself since I damage it some much.... but my car is also very very low... So just watch out for potholes andspped bumps and you'll be ok...

i have fiberglass front bumper. it sits about 4 inches from the ground....had it on my car like that for about almost 3 years and only broke it once right in half for the most stupid reason and it was during a show. i was ready to break this guys head open for his smart ass remark that he made right after i broke it. anyways i drive my car dayly over some crazy speed bumps and other crazy roads, train track, ect. and never realy scrape or damage it. i learned alternate routes to take that were smoother and learned the condition of roads pretty good. i can point out almost every pot hole, dip in teh road, wat intersection is bad with dips and stuff all over town just about, and wat areas are bad. after i hit something once i usualy remember where it was at so i know to stay out of that lane or know not to take that way anymore if i am able too. i also just try to take my time on the roads so i can see random shit coming up. also driving with a real low car that can break is like a whole different way of driving, but once you learn how to take certain inclines and learn wat inclines it can handle, it becomes an instinct and you just do it automaticly without thinking about it and know wat the car can go up and how much of an angle you got to go and stuff. shit even when i dont drive my car i still catch myself goign sideays for no reason when i dont have to. liek i said it becomes an instinct haha i can look at a speed bump or incline and be like yeh fuck that im not going there. then i can look at others and be like yeh my car can make that.
