Fuel Manegment for Low Boost Turbo Setup ?

Post by spitfire_one » Thu Mar 09, 2006 10:04 pm

This is my daily driver till my insurance goes down enough so I can get another camaro, so I just want the car to be in the 14s and I'll be happy.

I haven't decied on which way to go on the FMU so I would like some input from the turbo gurus.

I'm not going to run more than 8psi, but for awhile (until i get a pt crusier clutch) I'll only run 4-5psi.

-Megasquirt, Emagne, ETC
I like but don't like the idea of not being able to change full maps for differnt boost levels unless I have a laptop with me (and I dont' have a laptop)

-RRFPR
Return Line, enough said. And also electrical controlled makes me sleep better at night then hoses and springs.

-SAFC2
Love the idea, no laptop needed, multipe maps I can switch whenever, but I know its very limited and can't see boost. But for 8psi Max, I know I'll have to use a wideband 02 and a/f gauge to tune the ENTIRE RPM range, but for that little boost, would this be good enough w/o a return line?

Are there other options? Basically I don't want something I have to carry around a laptop if I wanna bump up the boost (want an in-cabin boost controller, any good?) nor something that will blow up my engine if a vaccum line comes loose, lol

From my understanding, the SAFC doesn't work well with turbo cars. Just doesn't handle the higher curves well. The RRFPR is going to be the easiest way to go, as I hear it's a pain in the neck to get the MS to work everything correctly. A lot of people choose MS for higher boost levels though, as it's a little more versatile than the RRFPR and does neat things like launch rev limiters and gets very specific in your fuel map. Anyway, let me know how it goes once you get everything running.

next year when my block is built, i will be going MS hands down. Only way to go on a high HP neon.

SuperAFC's work well on a PCM that already knows boost is there. I've seen it time and time again,S AFC's kill neons easy.

rrfpr are a pain in the ass, dont think its the easy way to go. Atleast it wont kill your engine though. MS is the way to go, but its just adding to your list of problems when turbocharging a car thats not made to do so.
