I believe a salvaged title is a car that was either claimed 'totaled' by an insurance company, or stolen and claimed as a loss. the car was usually crashed bad, then claimed as a loss but fixed into working order again and resold. they are cheap because they usually are messed up or their history has been sketchy. im sure someone else knows more about this than i do, im just remembering what my friend told me about his car that was salvaged.

Its alot harder to sell a car with a salvage title. Its a matter of how the buyer trusts the info about the car and the car itself. You have to decide if its something you want to gamble with or not. Most of the time the car will be fine for somewhat normal use. Its just up to you how you feel about it. :)

heres the deal....I might be moving out of my dads house because i cant stand him and i hate him and im done with his shit. SO if i move out then i have to give up my car, and ive seen a bunch of srt's with salvaged titles going for about a grand or 2 grand and if i decide to move out i was wondering if itd be worth it to buy one of these. I just was wondering if its a safe idea. If i move out i can only buy a car for like a grand or 2 anyway and if i can get my hands on an srt than that would be perfect.... I dont care if its got any body damage either as loing ats its fixable and drivable. I can repair it over time...

ususally with most salvage titles, theres some sort of body damage, and its against the law to drive them on the streets... what you have to do is fix the damage ont he car, take some pics, take it to your local DMV and have them reissue a title, sayin its been repaired and driveable again, then have it re-inspected and re-registered.

not sure about title reissue, but for inspection and registration, should be normal fee's and costs

I would assume it wouldn't be cheap (to do everything, repairs [DIY or not], title, registration etc.) but laws might be different by where you are. DMV laws always vary by state.

id say buy the srt cheap, fix it up and pay all the fees, THEN move out. just deal with it a bit longer and save money up to get the srt legal. then youd be set!

nah dude, my dad would never let that. Hes a prick, but my mom on the other hand is straight. I mean i have the money right now to do everything, and im moving out soon no matter what. Im just brainstorming on ideas of what i should do. I mean the srt is my dream car and id really like to go that route.

why cant you keep the car, is it your dads car? youre not on the title?
i dont understand the situation. my dream car is mine w/ srt motor swap, i think its cooler than any srt! if you keep the car id suggest going that route for sure, if you love the srt but not the attentiont that comes with it (from other drivers AS well as the POlice)

as far as the salvaged parts goe... cars have a salvaged title because the repair cost is higher than a certain percentage of what the car is worth... this varies by state and by insurance company. car can also have a salvaged title if they have been flooded.

me personally, i would stay away from a salvaged vehicle if this is gonna be your only way of trasportation. and about the moving out... more power to you. my advice on that is just think thing through very well. is it your dad thats being a prick or is it you just wanting something different. parents can be hard on their kids sometimes, but there might be a very good reason for that. all i'm saying is just think things through very well. you wouldn't wannna move out, not be able to make it and have to go back to them... or end up in a shittier place.

:withstupid:

the reason some people get salvaged vehicles, if because they are cheap, and provide a great source of parts especially an srt-4, you can take the engine, most the interior stuff and what not to swap into your current car.

Again w/ what someone ^^ there said, salvage cars have extensive body damage, like what sxt4 had, or knoxville_r/t had, their cars most likely now have a salvage title.

ive thought it through alot, took me 3 years to get my answer. Im moving out because my dad beats me for no reasons and ive pretty much been grounded for 3 years lol... w.e anyway, would it just be smarter to buy like an 89 camaro for like 2 grand then?

And yes i payed for the car but he put it in his name, cause i wasnt thinking/ didnt know when we bought the car. but i payed for every cent of it but since its in his name he said if i moved out hes keeping it. I would much rather keep my car but sometimes you have to sacrifice to be happy.

BTW my parents are divorced. So by me moving out im going to live wiht my mom, whom ive wanted to live with since they divorced. But she fucked up and he got custody.....

can you prove this... like receipts, bank withdrawels, anything? if so, then the car is yours. you can consult a lawyer... usually dosen't cost anything to consult. let your dad know, and if he still won't budge.... sue him. have him pay for the lawyer and court fees, and keep your car.

If you made all the payments can't you transfer it into your name?? If you have documented proof that you paid all payments and insurance that should help if there becomes a problem of ownership.
Good luck to you.

edit: oops I hadn't refreshed the page before i posted. Sorry dblsg

no.....since it was in his name, he payed the payments through his bank and i gave him the cash every month. Ive already thought it through, he can take that car and i have no defense.

becuase he wont let me get an apt or a house or anything because hes just anal. Way to many reasons and listen, hes a military guy (he was in 82nd airborne) and he thinks he has to live by this hardass mentality. I just cant take this shit from him anymore, hes overboard with everything and i need to go out and experience life which he isnt letting me do. Im 18 years old and i have a 1200 curfew....wtf is that shit. Im sorry he just gets me so angry, and i just need to leave. Ill give up my car, i love it to death and it means to much to me. BUt he can have it, as long as i never see him again....

tell him you want your car in your name, cuz you payed for it. if hes a dick about it punch him square in the nose and leave (be sure not to do this until you have a place to go for sure!). if hes big and buff, hit him with a bat instead. he sounds like a jerk, i had a similar prob with my dad back when i was 17 and i ended up poppin him in the eye when he tried to choke me, and he got what he deserved. moved in with my mom and since then everthing has been cool. if your dad loves you he'll want the best for you, and he'll let you keep the car. if not, please do one of the above acts of violence :D I hate when parents mistreat their kids.

dont hit your dad... trust me youll get an simple assuat which is an automatic couple year sentence(i forgot how long) anyone know that you paid for your own car? and all bring your W2 forms withdrawals also from your bank and obtain records of payments made match them up and consult with a lawyer and threaten to sue.. that would be the best way get your car and get out hope it works out dont make a rash decision and end up a couple rungs lower than you should be.... trust me i have had the same attitude towards my mom as you and now look at me a year has passed no mods have spent spent a large portion of this past year in and out of jail.... im barely putting things togtether im getting a carbon fiber trunklid a few things repainted and a system trust me go about it the easy way once your in the system you never get out...

Salvage doesnt always mean wrecked - Ive seen some Repossed cars listed as "salvage title" -

It all depends
In some states any car with anything over X-ammount of dagame means its a "salvage" title
