im getting my rt skirts and mopar front lip next week, and im gonna start lookin into getting it painted asap. ive asked this once before i think, but does anyone know about how much $$ im lookin at to have them paint the new stuff? im broke and i have a bit saved for this, but i have no idea what paint work costs.

on a different note, what is the type of tape i need to secure the skirts to the body? i figure its gonna be some sort of 3m, but is there a particular type that will work good with the paint and hold up in the weather (ie outdoor/indoor)?

lastly, is it best to install first and have them paint while its on the car, or is it possible to have em painted before hand? I plan on fitting the shit first either way, but i cant afford to have no car for hours/days while it gets painted. anyone have any idea how long it takes to paint/dry s few small body parts like this?

^Im gonna call some shops monday but i wanted to get some ideas from people who have experience in the specifics of what im doing. as far as the price goes, i just want a ballpark so i have an idea.

and yes, im starting school in august. im confused about how that relates to this thread tho..

i think im gonna try something, i have a red trunk in my garage....and i think im gonna go buy the mopar paint and try and do it....if all else fails ill take it to a body shop but if it looks good im keepin it, might wanna try the same thing....

id say any 3mm double sided tape would work just make sure you get some screws in there too to fasten it tightly...dont want that shit coming off

i'd say the lowest 500 if they are just painting it and putting it on...if they just paint them and you put them on maybe little lower but i doubt it

just my opinion...cost be cheaper or more expensive just depends on the shop

500 is a good number and also you dont use tape you use glue its a special glue that comes in a container like caulk but uses a special gun its pricey but works good

I have never heard of the glue idea, but I have always heard of people using screws and alot of 3m body molding tape, and it has held up fine. Every shop has different costs. since its justa lip kit, I would say around $500 just to paint it would be fair. Covers supplies (primer, paint, clear, sandpaper, etc.) and the labor, and labor isnt exactly cheap.

I would guess that turn around time would be roughly 1 to 2 days...one day to sand, prep, paint, etc. Let it sit over night to cure some, and get it back the next day for install. Especially because its so cut and dry (so to speak), just prep and paint.

if its damaged at all, they will definetly want to see it before they give you a quote. they might want to see it anyways before you get a quote. Body shops dont want to commit to a price over the phone w/out seeing what they are working with. None of the ones around here do phone quotes, even if you know everything.

Norton acrylic double sided foam tape is better then 3m, and is cheaper. UAP/NAPA Paint Division highly recommends it. I used it on my skirts and so far so good.

Something with such a small surface area, you could get away with spray bombing it yourself. Probably cost you 50 bucks in materials

wetsand them good with a 400 grit and send your parts to the body shop you will save alot on prepping $$. That what i did with my xenon urethane bodykit on my old 1st gen and it costed me 180$ CAD to paint the full kit i was shocked lol

so do the prepping you will save $$$

omg if im lookin at anywhere near 500 bucks this shits gonna have to wait a long ass time to get to the paint shop! thats 3 times what i paid for the damn parts.

anon- I considered that but ive been told by a few that its prob not a good idea considering my experience and lack of the right tools/skills. Im reallt thinkin about it though :)

03- yeah you heard right, but ive been putting bits away for the last few months so i could afford shit like this. cmon how could i pass up skirts and a lip for 200 bucks shipped?! you know how much ive wanted to get this, and i was plannin on paying 1000 for it new! (also wasnt plannin on gettin it until after school, but my luck changed!) I have a goal to save a certain amount, and aside form taking care of regular xpenses, the rest is basically car money. ive been careful and me and my girl are pinchin pennies so everything can workout and we can still buy a thing or two. I have enough left to buy my prokit from grambo, and a little on top of that to go towards painting this shit, but seeing all these huge quotes is making me nervous. its all good, if it has to wait, it waits. at least i got the deal of the century on em, and ill have em when im ready. heck i gotta worry about struts for the springs still, and thats gonna cost an arm and a leg too!

if your trying to save money for the future, then i would say do them yourself for now. you won't spend more that 100 bux (and thats pushing it) for a decent job... your grill came out pretty good. once you save a little bit more, then get them professionally done. who knows, you might like the way they come out when you do them.

Just a suggestion, but if you can't afford any of the quotes in your area, then I would highly recommend not settling for the cheapest price. When it comes to paint, you want to do it right the first time around, so that you don't have to do it again later.

Like already stated, you can prep it yourself and save money. If you have to, wait a little untill you have enough to get the job done right. You don't want to have issue such as clear fading, and sloppy paint jobs.

So...get your parts, mount them, make sure they fit correctly. Then remove them, prep, then send them to the shop when you are able to. Remember, when modding your car, the goal is to do it in an efficient manner as possible. Having to repair/fix mods such as re-painting bodykits is unecessary (fiberglass fronts have issues, but urethanes are ok). Plus, when you get used to it looking good, you will hate to have to remove the kit then have it redone. Not all shops gurantee their work. Where i live, there is a shop that gurantees the paint. If there is bubbling, or the clear fades, they will repaint at no cost. But then again, they charge pretty hi $$$ to do the job.
