wires on the Alpine CDE-9843

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Apr 05, 2006 11:32 pm

on the wiring harness of the cde-9843s the remote and illumination/dimmer wires have a little connector on the end with rubber around it. what should i do about it, since im going to install it tomorrow, should i just cut of the one on the remote wire and just crimp it, or leave the connector thing and crimp it with that thing? also is twisting the wires and warpping them in electrical tape bad?

and since i have the wiring harness that i got from crutch field, it basicly has to be connected from color to color and the wires on the alpine harness that has the black stripe on it goes to the negative on the harness adapter right?

Just cut the connectors off and crimp, that's what I did and everything works and it was easier.

P.S. You're correct on the black = neg thing.

P.S.S. Just realized that my girlfriend has that deck in her car, she loves it.

is it bad to jsut twist the wires together and wrap it in electrical tape, ive seen people on caraudio.com suggest it. or should i jsut get some butt connectors and crimp it that way?

i used a wiring harness on mine so i could have the stock conector, and i just twisted the wires and used electrical tape on them... when car-toys installed my amps for me, they went back and crimped everything...

Electrical tape will work but it's a better idea to use wing nuts or even better to crimp or even solder them.

if your gonna twist... make sure your twisting both wires together and not just wrapping one wire on the other one.

what i do is twist, soder, and tape... never had any problems.

what i do is I braid the wires together like you would braid hair, then take and twist that, then i take some needle nose pliers and curve it like a C into a ball then smother it w/ electrical tape... my connections aint goin nowhere

is your stock deck out? look at the back of it... do you see one big plug or two... if two, one is directly under the other one... it might look like one

^ yep... you can go to your local worst buy or circuit city... they should have it. hell, maybe even walmart or kmart. should be around that price... no more than $20. unless you wanna wait till you get ahold of crutchfield and they replace it for free.

So you got an 02 with the 03+ stereo? I've read that there's an adapter you can get from the dealer to do this but that would mean that if you traced your harness back you would find the 2 connectors you need. I've done installs in 4 03's and 2 02's and I've found that the 03 is when they switched harnesses

woot woot....just got my harness today in the mail, all of it free of charge.

but since on the harness it has a ground wire, can i just cut off the connector on the end of the headunits ground wire. and just crimp those 2 wires together.
