oil in intake manifold?
alright i was installing a new intake i recieved and took out the rubber hose from the throttle body to the intake manifold and noticed there was oil in my intake manifold. so i took the hose from my pcv and intake manifold out and notice there is oil in that hose. now my question is... do i just need a new pcv valve or is this something more serious. my guess is a new pcv but just wanted to be sure. there is also oil on the valve cover where the pcv screws in. ive never replaced it on my car before with 66,000 miles?

Normal... it happens when you do make hard right turns and the oil gets shoved to the side of the valve cover by the PCV and blown down into the intake system. It's a known issue and most people if they have a problem put a catchcan on the line.

Some states will fail you for the can but others like here in OH could care less as long as you don't throw a code.
You can get a new PCV in you like, might help a little bit but overall it'll still happen. Just take a rag and soak up the oil in the mani. Thats what I do any time I pull my CAI off for any reason.

I have changed my intake 4 times now on my 04 neon. Every time, there is a pool of oil. If you use synthetic, it cleans VERY easily. Dyno oil... have fun

here are some pics of my setup. i had an oil in the intake problem too, dodge did nothing but put a pcv valve in it and it still did it. so i made this. for emissions concerns hold onto the hose that goes from the pcv to the intake and when you have to go in for testing just put the original hose back on. not much oil will get in there in that short amount of time that its on. i now have nearly zero oil in the intake manifold.
my setup is a little air compressor system water separator. its about $12 at walmart or autozone. the hose is 3/8" fuel line and 1/2" heater hose. i have ~$25 in it total.
i know i could have taken a shorter route but i went the long way, i think it looks good. i made the little bracket and tapped the holes on the top of the separator.

sorry to bump up an old post...but i took of my CAI to clean it and repaint the pipes. I didnt notice when I took it off, but when I went to put the shorter pipe back on, there was a pool of oil in the intake manifold. We got it all out, and I installed the CAI just like it was before (I have taken it apart and reinstalled it 2-3 times and no problems). I tried to start it and it idles really low, like 400 and then dies. I have a full tank of gas...so Im not sure what the problem is.
could it be the IAC? I did have issues w/ the IAC about 2 years ago, but supposedly, they cleaned it up and it has been fine ever since. no problems till today

bump? I j ust changed the pcv valve and its still idling really low after I rev it manually w/ the throttle cable to keep it going. there was some white smoke coming out of the exhaust when we reved it. Everything is fine from what I can see, the main components are less than a year old. I dont see oil leaking anywhere else.
anyone?

just make a home made catch can...
its in the how-two section, and it's stickied...
or, just click here.. http://forum.2gn.org/viewtopic.php?t=9377
and if your state wont pass it because of the catch can, then keep the original line, it take 4 seconds to put it on, and take the old one off...

Man, every time I've pulled the manifold I take a peek in there to find the exxon valdez. Fortunately even though there's a fair amount of oil in there, the intake is deep enough it's not hurting anything so I just leave it.

I am thinking about tearing into my intake to clean it out, but question, right now I can't afford a catch can, so I was thinking about those little tiny breather, filter things... but I was wondering, do those do any harm, or would it do any harm to have one on? Will oil leak through and drip into my bay? Or do I need to have that hose coming out of the pcv into the intake - I have seen people put them into the back one, but that goes all the way into the intake... so, it looks like I would need liek 4 of those filters??? I dunno, I was wondering...

keep the pcv system functioning. your better off dumping oil into the intake than having a non fuctioning pcv system.

I cleaned the IAC off and it started right up after I let it sit a minute. I had a problem w/ the IAC a couple of years ago, so I think I just need to replace that.
It started fine today also. Im thinking it may also be because I never drive the car as often as I did, but I plan to change that here soon.
