Anyone know about a turbonator?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

see that quick search and GO button up on top...

1. click in the space next to it.
2. type 'turbonator'
3. read other posts about it.

Once again... doesn't do anything.

HP doesn't come cheap... there really isn't any real easy way of making HP on our car.

youre really lookin for hp on the cheap huh. ive heard from millions of peeps that the "turbonator" and the "tornado" and all those other things are pure crap and do nothing at all for your car. its a wanna be turbo that runs on intake air instead of exhaust (making it pointless). you get what u pay for.

theres a system out there that makes your car like a hybrid but its still in the works and such which might be succesful... but that right there is pure crap if your looking for dirt cheap performance try nitrous on the "other" org theres occsianoly someone who sells there nitrous kit on the cheap... ive seen kits go as low as 150 bux well minus the jets and it wasnt all tricked out but still....

in certain applications they do work, but not in a neon.

i bought a tornado for my monte. i immediatly noticed 1-2 mpg increase. i never changed my driving habits. since i had good luck with the tornado in the monte and i wanted every last drop of mpg out of the neon i got on off ebay for the neon. put it in and nothing happened. i then sold the neon on on ebay for slightly more than what i paid for it. sold the one for the monte for ~$30 since i dont drive it anymore and when i do start driving it again fuel economy will be near the bottom of the list of worries.

When I took my stock intake off my car for the first time, something fell out and rolled across the garage floor. Well, it was a "Tornado" that the orginal owner must have installed. I didn't put it back in after I had installed my K&N and removed the silencer from the wheel well, and I didn't see any difference in mpg. Granted I only drove about two tanks completely stock with the Tornado in, but I didn't feel that it was worth putting back in. The neon's intake design isn't helped by something that "swirls" the air like that, but I've heard of significant results from V-8's (like racer12306's Monte), especially the older carb'd engines.

It does work on increasing mileage, but its definitely a lie about horsepower. The only reason it helps your gas mileage is because it hinders intake airflow. In otherwords its like having the throttle body only half open, which means you are driving slower, which means you save on gas. Think about it, this thing tumbles the air, now that air has to keep that vortex going past the throttle plate, the tubing after that, turn a couple of corners and go through your header.... all it does is slow down the air. It doesn't atomize your fuel. If you google you can find articles done by a couple of car magazines who dyno tested these devices. Average gain was -2 hp.

I've actually heard of the things coming apart and causing serious damage.

I'm surprised that I don't read more about this one right here. Just look at the pictures of these things. One of those small fins comes off and I'm sure your intake valves will LOVE you.

Some moron on that product's Feedback page wrote:In a completely stock 99' Dodge Neon sport, I gained ten horses and went from 34-37 wheel horsepower to 44-47 wheel horsepower (using a G-Tech Pro performance meter). I have also noted (when I drive responsibly) a gain in gas mileage. I also lost a full second off my Quarter-mile times; from 16.8 to 15.8 and probably could have done better with more time with the G-Tech.

This guy had a 34HP Neon?! I guess ANYTHING would help then. AND he shaved a FULL second off his 1/4 mile time!

Jason, if this guy is real, find him and smack him! :slap:

nothing's up... they just rely on uninformed people making rush decisions to sell a limited amount of product; and that's all good, america's #1 industry is the branding, packaging and marketing of bullshit 8)
