Need help with tires

Post by kc2005ptgt » Thu Apr 06, 2006 9:24 pm

Ok, I have 4 tires I am choosing from, and am looking for performance as well as look and reliability - in wet and snow.

Right now I have on my car: Michelin Harmony, 195/60 HR15

Below are links to all 4.

http://www.edgeracing.com/tire/918/

Let me know, this is important to me, all criticism is welcome, as well as advice. :)

Thanks,
Andrew

I had hankooks..they are honestly not that bad. I never drove w/ them in snow though, but they seemed to handle fine in rain.

Personally...I love my new Fuzion ZRi tires...they handle very well, but they are summer tires, so I doubt they will be good for heavy rain or snow.

well i have experianced the falkens, and they are garbage, no good and they wear out super fast. i have also experianced the hankooks and they are awsome, specially for the price, and the toyo's are good aswell but i dont think they are worth the price diff compared to the hankooks, they are better but not that much better, i would go with the hankooks.

I'm not real sure on which tire to get but I can tell you that Edge Racing is a good place to buy tires from. I bought a set of Falken RT-615's from them and was really happy with the service and got them within like three days.

Slight hijack, whats the biggest tire we could run with a 16" rim? I know 215/40 is the biggest we can get for 17's, so would that mean, a 215/50 woulds work?

i vote Hankook. i have the same 205/50's on my car, had them for 2 years now. they handle great in everything except snow (and thats because of the tread pattern, not the tire itself) and they have worn really well. the ony other "bad" thing ive experienced with them is they dont launch so well at the drag strip...

Ok, well, I finally got my tires and got them installed, and boy - I must say after driving on those Michelin Harmony's for almost 3 years these tires really drive great! I have excellent traction now, little wheel spin, and handles like a dream. I have yet to really take it to the hills and curves behind my neighborhood, so when I can (this weekend) I will push them to their limits.

I went with the 205/55/15 Falkens because of price and traction and treadwear. I like the fatter look of the tire (although barelly noticable from the 195/60/15 I had) and the stiffer sidewalls make a difference too. I also got my cars alignment checked out and guess what? The tires sit like so --> / \
My guess is that is from the factory, or maybe from when it was at Skip Barbers, because it is not horribly off, but rather set up for the turns and twists that I could possibly see on, oh, say, a track.

So, Anyway, I like the setup now, and having new feet makes a load of difference... best 'mod' so far to date! Even better than the UDP and CAI I was so extactic about! I think I am going to work on some more suspension mods (springs or perhaps coilovers?) and probably a whole new set of bushings, which I hear are a pain in the booty to change out. Maybe some stiffer/thicker sway bars!

Thanks for your opinions in this poll, I am glad I listened to you all! ;) :D

bigger swaybars seem to make the biggest difference when I ways going my suspension upgrades. Hotchkis are nice. Not very hard to install if you get the car up on jackstands and have a creeper.

I love my Falken 512s. I am ready for a second set. I get the $37 a piece 195/60s. Like $245 M&B out the door locally since I showed them the print out from EdgeRacing and thier prices with shipping simply KILL everyone in price.

Price Matching FTW!
