There's a guy over on the org that swapped his car from automatic to 5-speed (I think it's an 02). In his swapping thread, he says that on stock automatic cars, there's a 4400rpm rev limiter in neutral and park on the automatic ECU. He got around it by wiring the neutral safety switch to the clutch pedal switch. Now the car revs normally, but when the clutch is in, it limits it to 4400rpm.
So... I start thinking... is there anyone else that thinks that this would make a NASTY strip setup? You sit at the line with your right foot planted and it just stays at 4400rpm until you let off the clutch and off you go?! Plus, on the street, you wouldn't even notice the difference. Would it be as easy as tossing in an automatic ECU?? Or am I dreaming here?
I haven't heard of anybody deliberately doing this, so if someone has, please chime in!

heh
much easier to just use a MSD box with 2 step rev limiter...launch rpm and max rpm /shrug

not to mention neon ECU controls RPM's via a fuel cut off..which, on any modified motor = detonation which, = motor death

Yeah this is what I was figuring it would do cheaply, if not for free.texasracer wrote:much easier to just use a MSD box with 2 step rev limiter...launch rpm and max rpm /shrug
The limiter would only be in effect with the clutch completely to the floor, which is an extremely short amount of time.texasracer wrote:not to mention neon ECU controls RPM's via a fuel cut off..which, on any modified motor = detonation which, = motor death
This is what I didn't think of until afterwards. Also, if you're someone that shifts without lifting, it could cause issues.91DSX wrote:What happens when you shift at redline?
Clutch in, revs drastically drop to 4400rpm instead of the correct RPM drop from what it might be normally, this equals a big loss in E/T!!!
So I guess it sounds like this guy on the org is gonna have problems if he doesn't just ground that pin instead of running it to the clutch pedal switch huh? On top of that, it's a 2.4 turbo car.
