I've installed an aftermarket head unit but the speakers are stock in my SXT so they are on the crappy sounding side. I'm thinking of using 6.5" for the front door, 6x9's for the back. However, I noticed there also is two speakers on the dash, are those tweeters? What size are they and how would you replace them?
Also regarding ohm / resistance, what would be the recommended specs to make sure things will sound good?

first off the speakers in the dash are tweeters, but they can be replaced with 3.5" speakers, thats wahy i put in mine.
as for the rest of the speakers, i ahve 6.5" in my front doors, and 6x9's in the back deck and two 12" subs in the trunk for some bump.
I recomend using an amp to power aftermarket speakers. they will sound much better and cripser than they would being powerd by only the head unit.
as for the ohm / resistance im not to sure, i know it applies for sub woofers that can be run parallel and w/ not
my car is all sony Xplod stuff, some like it, some dont, i personally love it to death...
I have 120watt 3.5" speakers in the dash with bass blockers on them (they cant handle very much bass or power as of their size) 240watt 6.5" speakers in the door, and 400watt 6x9's in the rear and two 1200watt 12" subs, the speakers are powerd by a 600watt 4-channel amp, and the subs are powerd by a 1600watt class D mono sub amp. i have a wiring guide somewhere here thats a basic howto on wiring it all... im sure there are a few others who can help out too, but i hope that helps you out some

I just upgraded all of my speakers to Boston Acoustic SX60's up front and SX95's in the back. I am powering them off of an Alpine MRP-F450 amp and it sounds great. I would definitely pick them over sony xplod or infinity speakers like most people here will try to recommend. As for resitance, most speakers you will find are 4 ohm. Really though, it pretty much depends on how much power you want. I have 4 ohm components and 6x9s so my amp only gives them 70 watts...but the amp can do 100 at 2 ohms.
Pretty much just look at what speakers you want and look for an amp that can do the RMS at the propper resistance. And for choosing speakers just go to an audio store and listen..whatever you like the best is the one that you should get.

OK... so lets say I upgraded the 2 door / 2 back speakers (and don't mess with the tweeters). Is there some sort of wiring diagram if I want to include a 4 channel amp to power the speakers? Also, where did you put your amp, under the front passenger seat?

here is a thread lilolneon posted with a wiring diagram: http://forum.2gn.org/viewtopic.php?t=7831
I have my amp mounted in my trunk but you could put it under your seat or wherever makes you happy. It took me about 55 feet of speaker wire to wire everything up.

No.. its not. Its the DB355MP model... on sale with no rebates for $74 bucks at Fry's and it plays MP3's! Actually, the system is a pretty good system. I had an $150 buck Blaupunkt in my old car and this thing sounds better than that one ever did. I think for now, I'll start with speakers and then when I have time to get an amp and figure out all the wiring, I'll hookup a 4 channel amp.

well if you are using stock wiring you can get an adapter so you don't have to cut the factory end off the speaker side of the wire. Otherwise you can just cut it and use it that way.Anonymous User wrote:sorry to thread jack, but does our cars need a speaker adapter wire for the 6.5s and 6x9? becuase i can get some infinity krappa 6.5 for only $20 from a friend.
