Speaker help

Post by DannyBoy » Wed May 03, 2006 8:05 pm

I'm having some trouble with my speakers in my car. The driver door one will not play anything, sometimes it will start to play but most of the times it's just dead. The weird thing is, it pops when I turn on the car. Anyone have any ideas as to what it can be? Loose wire? Bad speaker?

I'll check it out, what is the easiet way to get to the speaker?

I took off the door and there were 3 bolts around the speaker, I took them off and the speaker was still in there tight.

How long have you had the deck powering the stock speakers? Just out of curiousity. My stock speakers took a shit in my last truck only after 8 months of the aftermarket deck pushing them...

For a while. Here is an update

All the connections looks good

But I tried the left speaker (which doesn't work) on the right side, and it sounded really muffled and distorted, but when i tried the good speaker on the left side, i got nothing.

So I think the left channel for the driver speaker got all messed up and blew the speaker. Cus it sounded shitty when I put it on the good side.

I tried the driver side speaker, which doesn't work, on the right side which does work; and I got a really distorted sound, muffled.

Then I tried the passenger side speaker which does work, on the driver side and I got nothing.

Ah, okay. I see what you were saying now. :P Forgive me - I guess I wasn't reading it thoroughly enough to make it make sense. :)

My friend has an older neon like that with the same problem. Her aftermarket HU blew her stock speakers. The reason this happens to people is because the aftmarket HU sends too much power to the stock speaks, and they cant handle it. Simple fix is to install some inline voltage filters. BestBuy, CircuitCity, and CarToys should have em. Thats what my old ford car used. They were installed on the + Wire right at the wiring harness on the HU. I hope that helps out a little. If you dont wanna spend too much money buying aftermarket speakers, WalMart has some $20ish Stock Replacement speakers.

Just get a set of cheaper aftermarket speakers that can handle to deck's output? Just some Pyramid's or something... You can pick a set of them up for like $28 shipped on eBay.

Pyramid's are the shit for economy aftermarket speakers. :D

Do they sound any better than the stock ones?

What would you guys recommend for a good deck too? I don't need mp3 or wav or any of that bullshit. Just a good deck that plays CD's.

Yes. Especially as far as distortion goes... They sound a lot more clean.

Everyone will have different recommendations. Just go buy a lower end Clarion... They're cheap & the deck will last longer than your car, most likely.

circuit city or best buy usually has some good deals on low end decks, and i know CC had a deal with free install (if you're feeling lazy :D ) for all decks that were 100 bucks i think.

Thanks alot guys!

I might just go wth some 100-200 alpine or pioneer one then either grab another stock speaker or run some cheaper aftermarket ones off my new deck.

The fronts will need a mounting special mounting bracket. You also might want to get a pair of Bass Blockers for your dash tweeters. (If you have em that is) If not, go buy a set of 3.5's for the Dash :-D

The front door speakers shouldn't need a special mounting bracket if he buys 6.5" speakers.

^ On my old 1gen i had to get the low profile speakers or get a mounting bracket so that the speaker didn't hit the window (crank windows)...maybe taht's what he means?

Now I'm trying to figure out what kind of deck and speakers I should go with.

I was thinking an alpine deck and some infinity speakers?

Im not saying I want to go cheap, I'm not really on a low budget. I was just saying I don't want to go overboard.

Money isn't too big of an issue.

i've always sworn by infinite speakers, i love them.

infact i have two infinity reference low profile 6.5's sitting in my room i bought a year ago, i just need to re-solder one of the connectors back on...and i've still got to buy a soldering gun.
