Take the cover off of the airbox and run an open airbox. It has a nice low grumble until about 4000 rpms, then it screams. Just take the intake resonator out too.Buy the KN filter too for an open airbox, seeing as it will get dirtier quicker.

I had to jack my car up and take the fender well out to get to mine. 3 bolts and that big hunk of plastic was gone.

you have to take your drivers side wheel off, pry back the splash guard, and there you will see the infamous black box. Unscrew the bolts and fire it into the trash!

there ya go. its behind the fender lining (black plastic). attaches to the airbox via an elbow (also plastic) that runs into a hole in the drivers side fender. the res isnt visible from the outside/engine bay.sullygully wrote:you have to take your drivers side wheel off, pry back the splash guard, and there you will see the infamous black box. *LOL* You guys are gonna have this fella bashin his head off the wall.
You'll need to remove the headlight on the drivers side. When you look down into the fender well you can see it. Its a LARGE black box. Its shaped like the fender and is a HUGE pain to get out. There is a bolt along the top edge that you'll need to remove. Then take the first 2 screws out of the inner fender lining along the edge of the bumper where the tire is. Pry that back and under there is one more bolt to take it out. I took that side of my bumper loose to get mine out as I didn't want to pry against anything that hard. There is a elbow that locks the box into the frame rail right there so that it can't fall otu the bottom with the bolts removed. You have to slide the box back towards the wheel and then it can come down. Good luck.... it wasn't fun getting mine out.

Just run open header. I did that and it sounds like a drag car. But warn the neighbors or they will probably call the cops because it will rattle some windows. Just unbolt the cat and start it up and you will know what I am talkin about.

You don't need to remove your headlight, or for that matter jack up your car....With my stock 14's, I turned the wheel all the way to the right and pulled out the inner fender liner, then got the four bolts out and just kinda pulled gently till it slid out.

I think i turned mine all the way to the right though, the front of the tire was facing inward.

goddamn i tried to do that but i couldnt peal back the liner inside the wheel well.. i prolly could get at it then.. The res is connected to the other part of the airbox that goes inside the wheel well correct?

its gonna sound the same.. since now your pullin the air from the top open, instead of the fender. if your gonna ride like that, dont worry bout the resonator. now its just sittin there doin nothin...05neonsxt wrote:yeah i saw a tube that runs from the airfilter box into the fender wall ...im guessign thats where it is at.

although i wouldnt recommend it since you'll eat through filters really quick.

All I did was get in the car, turn the wheels all the way to the right, remove all the screws in the fender wheel well liner and pull back on it... There's a big ugly hollow box with like two or three bolts holding it on... That's the resonator. Just spend $35 on eBay and get a CAI and you'll have that nice whistle along with the grumble.
taking the res out is cake, listen to these guys about turnin the wheel and poppin the fender screw thingies out and bend the lining back to access the res. you can also take the wheel OFF for much easier access, but it takes time to jack and shit. I had the airbob/res out and my CAI in (including jacking the car and removing the wheel) in about 1.5 hours, working at a slow pace.
aqaurius makes a good point, but the lid protects the filter so keep it on. go ahead and remove the res tho, its safe.
