power locks question, need help!!!!!

Post by apk2k6 » Thu May 18, 2006 10:55 am

Well I installed the power locks/windows/mirrors finally and everything works except the locks for some reason. If this helps, only one light in the panels is working, the one that controls the driver side window. The other lights are not on and the light where the shifter is(D,R,N, etc) is not working either. Maybe this is connected somehow....

Is there any trick to installing the locks, because everything is hooked up correctly but when I use the switch for the locks, nothing happens.

I'll double check again but I'm pretty sure everything is connected properly. It's kind of weird how the windows/mirrors work but not the locks lol. And it's also weird about only one light working on the door panels...hmmmmm

I did the search and found out what the 2nd one is, but I didn't understand it. And I couldnt find the first one. Maybe it has to deal with the power stuff.

Check the switches themselves and any relays used. Are you 100% sure all the components you used are good?

Well I figured the chances of both switches and all 4 door motors being bad are slim to none. Dodge said they'll look at it for $89 haha, what a deal...........

depends. May only have one bad one. I dont remember how the locks are wired, but like with the windows, if one switch goes bad, neither work. Its something you may want to look into.

Ok well I'm sure the motors work, but here's the problem.

My dad and I checked to see if there was any power going to the connector that plugs in the switch. According to our little tester thing there was no power, but we checked the mirror and window plugs and they showed they had power, makes sense.

So we ran a hot wire from the battery straight to that connector and the locks still didn't work, so I don't know what to do now.

it might... when they pull your vin up it will come up w/ no power options, then they gonna ask who installed it and for a reciept. If you say you did it, they might charge you an arm, a leg, and your first born. And thats IF they want to fix it.

Also on the wires, yous aid they got no power. Check both fuse boxes under the hood, and inside the car and make sure that theres not a seperate fuse to work the locks. Also check to see if you need the keyless entry black box.

I checked all the fuses. The fuses under the hood kind of confuse me, but none of them said anything remotely to power locks.

I'm thinking it may be the keyless entry black box thing.....anyone know more about this?

as far as the little lights on the switches, I understand that after the 2001 model year, one of the things Dodge did was take most of them out. I have tons of little lights on switches that you will not find on factory 2002's and up. Did you guys know that in 2000/2001 there was a cup holder flood light on some models? I have that as well as lights on all my switches. It was part of the great "cheapening" of the Neons. Sadly. :?

Well there is the little clear window on the switches where light is supposed to shine through. I'm sure the lights on the locks and all the window switches are supposed to light up correct?

Not really. They just saved money by not making non-window switches. The real money was in the electronics of those tiny lights. Thats what they eliminated.

So the only light that is supposed to work is the driver's side window button and thats it? Because that's the only one working. This is weird lol

Its so the driver can find his window switch easy while driving at night. They at least gave you that. The passengers have time to fumble to find switches because they are not trying to pay attention driving. At least thats the only reason I can come up with. I feel DCX did a bad thing by taking anything out of the Neons. They gave us everything imaginable in 2000, then took it all away. They are Indian givers. Sadly thats the trend though. You really have to research carefully for what you want now days. :?

Dang thats really weird, I was wondering why only one light worked.

They cheap out by only using 2 power windows, then by cutting out the lights? Ahhh :\

So do I need the keyless entry box? And would I need to get it reprogrammed, or just get the remote programmed?
