How to take off Intake Manifold Support Bracket????

Post by pacman » Wed Nov 03, 2004 10:40 pm

I need to change my oil pan, I was doing a oil change like I’ve been doing for the past couple of years. and was pulling the wrench the wrong way for about 2min, then finally realized that I was going the wrong way. and was striping the inside of the pan, when I got it off. Half of the hole was striped out and now I am leaking oil but I covered it with some sealant for the time being to stop the leak, for now but my question is

How do you take off the intake manifold support bracket mounting bolts. I can’t seem to get the dam thing off. It is on their tight as hell and I don’t want to break the dam bolt. Any body have a good ide or now’s how to get it off. Their torque to 30 in-lbs

Idea...

Go to the hardware store or a Industrial Supply store, and get a thread tap. Rethread the stripped out hole. You will most likely have to step the bolt up to the next size.

Taps cost a couple of bucks, but beats replacing the whole pan... besides re-taping the hole is what all the oil change places do anyway.... hmm, you may just be able to take it to a Jiffy Lube or what not, ask if they have one and just pay them for an oil change and they throw an extra $2 on the bill for retap and new bolt.

Just an idea, I've had it happen to me before.
