That's exactly why you never see a gas station that only sells gas. Gotta' have the convenient store with overpriced merchandise to make any profits.ACHEAPSHOT wrote:The person that gets hurt in that deal is the guy that owns that gas station. does seem a little stupid to call 911. how about just tell the person behind the counter of the store. it would be funny if that person was charged with making a false 911 call.

Exactly. I worked for a gas station for almost 3 years. Most of the time, I heard, the owner was only making a few cents on the gallon. But, with fuel sales on a busy day close to $10k in ADDITION to all the store sales (cigarettes, beer, pop/soda) I don't think the guy was hurting for money. The owner's bought a few properties and opened one new station in the past year. He's definitely doing ok, he has a few Lincoln Towncars and a Durango (what can I say, he's cheap... I never got a raise).03sxt wrote: That's exactly why you never see a gas station that only sells gas. Gotta' have the convenient store with overpriced merchandise to make any profits.
I dunno, though. 911 may seem ridiculous, but can you imagine the riotous crowds a 90% discount on gas would create? I dunno.
Fuck gasoline. I just fill up when I need gas and pay NO attention to the price.

Wish I could find a deal like that.
Oh well, I am paying 2.89 right now. Like was said before, I just get gas when I need it. Usually the same place too. I do look at the price, but thats it. Just pump it and go on with life.

It has been proven that some stations up their prices and make money off of gas, while othres eat the cost and provide cheaper fuel and make their money off of things like candy, snacks, and drinks... don't fall prey to the "Gas station is innocent" - they are all in cahoots and they all want our money. Any company will smooth over anything to make themselves look like the victim instead of the perp... I call BS to all those gas stations!
And as far as high prices, we are still lower prices than most of Europe and Asia... their problems are huge taxes, and here, we pay high taxes too, but nearly as bad. The money ends up going to the state (for the most part) to help fix our roads and such, and the rest of the money goes back to the oil companies and refineries - usually at 100% profit. THEY are who you should be mad at!

Ummm... No? Do you watch the news? I'm pretty sure that the money is sent to Federal level, but even if it's not, the gas price cost, for the most part, is determined by the federal government.kc2002acr wrote:The money ends up going to the state (for the most part) to help fix our roads and such, and the rest of the money goes back to the oil companies and refineries - usually at 100% profit. gas prices are not determined by the "federal level" its a supply and demand situation.. we could have all the drums of crude oil we want but really we have no way to refine it into gasoline faster than people are using it with our current refinerys. we need to build more... and that brings up problems everyone wants more refinerys but no one wants one in there backyard.... oil companys actully make next to nothing on gasoline and if they sold exclusivly gasoline they would go out of buisness. a major bulk of thier profits come from other products that are made from crude oil.... before you guys start ranting please check you facts you guys are sounding like OB trying to mod his neon..

It's not the GAS STATIONS that are making all the money. Despite the conspiracy theories you'd like to believe in, it's not your gas station that's raking in all the fucking money. I can tell you that for DAMN SURE. It might be the oil companies, but I'm as sure as the sky is blue, that it's NOT your local gas stations that are making the money.

Gas stations arent making as much as we think they are, thats for sure! But thats is there primary source of income. (gas stations that is, not oil companies)
If we all could just go to one type of gas station, the other places would have to bring their prices back down to make more money!
Just my thought!

I do not think anyone ever said it was the gas stations, I reread my post to make sure I was clear, so let me spell it out better:Ifixyawata wrote:It's not the GAS STATIONS that are making all the money. Gas stations are getting all the heat because they are the ones actually selling us what we need, but in reality, they are not making much off it, or even close to enough to cover their costs - but some stations are upping prices and then claiming the same thing "we make no money off of gas" - that is what I call BS on. As for the taxes, they are state and local taxes and they do go to the state and city. Some have extremely high taxes, like CA and some are very low, like MO and AR... I don't complain any more about gas, because bottom line is I need it, until they come out with an affordable car that uses less gas, I will continue to drive and fill up each week at about 27-30$ a tank. Regardless, I no all about supply and demand, so thanks everyone for the econ 101 lesson
Also, watch the price of crude per barrel, that will tell you when gas is going to rise - within hours of the close of wallstreet, gas jumps or lowers.

Ah well, I guess I get a little defensive when I here people blaming the local stations. For 3 years, I'd get asked at least 5 times a week "So when are YOU going to lower gas prices." As if I, or anyone at that station had any control of it.
Like I said... just fill up when you need gas and ignore the price. Best thing you can do for yourself. Driving across town to save 36 cents isn't worth it. At these prices, you'd probably spend that much getting there.

Heck, I dont even work ata gas station and I hear that all the time tooIfixyawata wrote:Ah well, I guess I get a little defensive when I here people blaming the local stations. I had someone the other day mention something about high gas prices and I almost told them to deal with it and stop whining! Instead I said "You know, we have to pay for it no matter what, so what is the point of complaining about it? We complain when it is $1, when its $2, and now we complain at $3!" They turned away and ignored me.
