lights in switches
lights in switches
So I heard that the switches for power locks and windows do not light up on 03+ neons to cut prices(the only light that works is the driver side window). Is this true?
All the lights for the switches in srt-4's work though, correct? Are the lights located inside the door panel itself, so if I were to buy srt-4 door panels the lights would work?

Indeed. It makes sense that the SRT would get the lights installed, but I can't verify that for sure.apk2k6 wrote:So I heard that the switches for power locks and windows do not light up on 03+ neons to cut prices(the only light that works is the driver side window). Is this true?

Its true and has been said a hundred times. Starting in the 2002 model year, DCX took that away. Whats so hard about that?

It's actually very frustrating because DCX didn't even bother molding 2 types of switches. Even the non lighted switches look as if they should light up. Very tacky. I may have to go to a junkyard and go hunting. I never tought of replacing switches.
Do you know if the switches on first gen would be the same style/fit as the ones on second gen?

Replacing switches will NOT work. I'm guilty of this one. In my 03, the harness for the driver's window switch has an additional 2 wires. Well, take a wild ass guess as to what these do. Plug an illuminated switch into a connector that doesn't have those two wires and it won't light up. From what I've seen, the ones that illuminate have a black harness connector. The ones that don't light up have a grey harness connector.
I'm currently working on a jumper resistor set up so that you can light it up off of 12V without adding any wires to the harness. I'll update when I have a final product.

Keep us updated john. the "unfinished" look of the switches always annoyed me.jonnymopar wrote:Replacing switches will NOT work. I'm guilty of this one. So my girlfriend called me and said she was working late tonight. Had some time on my hands.

I also took some photos of the connectors and the switches. Look at the black connector. See the white wire and the black/yellow wires? Notice that they are not on the grey connector. Also, the back of the grey switch (passenger) is missing pins 6 and 7, while the black switch (driver) has all 8 pins.

I accomplished this different ways with the driver's and passenger's switch. Both of them were a delicate operation. I still need to do the switch on the passenger door, so I'll post pics of the internals of the switch. I might even change the resistor on the ones that I did. These suckers are BRIGHT right now.

This is being discussed elsewhere so here is the link.

And trust me, SRTs have the same non-lighting buttons that the SXTs have.
