1st gen Brakes on a 2gn?

Post by MorganCroft » Mon Jun 05, 2006 6:20 pm

Got a question... Will the Rear Brake setup from a 1st gen work for a 2ng gen? I am going to do a disc conversion. And if it does, are the only parts I need: Ebrake cables, Hubs/Knuckles, Calipers, rotors, brake pads? Thanks guys!

Good question, I'd like to know the answer as well. Especially since their are alot more 1st gens in the junkyard with rear discs than thier are 2nd gens.

all you need is the lines, e-brake stuff, calipers, rotors, and backing plate. i dont think you need the knuckle and the hub.

So are the 1st gen stuff identical to 2nd gen? Are the rotors/calipers the same size?

its not exactly the same but there very similar. the rotor might be a tad smaller or somthing like the or the caliper may be a bit bigger ,but noting to greatly improve or reduce the performace you would never know the diffeence. same thing with the srt-4 set up the rear srt-4 discs are about the same as r/t rears. but the srt-4 front rotors are and inch bigger in diameter i think.

^ thats pretty much it, r/t rears = srt rears and are supposed to be about 98% identical to 1gn's rears.

Aren't the rears non-vented?

I would assume that when I went to change the brake pads/rotors, that I would have to specify the car it came from for the correct size.. ie.. either 1st gen neon, or srt4? As teh rotors are different sizes... Correct?

as far as rotors go you can probly get either 1st gen or 2nd gen when your buying new. and i would just tell them i have the 1st gen calipers when buying pads.
